Speaking of goaltenders, any chance we can get Jonathan Quick on the trade market as he's got 1 year left on his deal + LA signed their new goalie Cal Petterson to a big deal months ago?
I don't say no right away purely because Quick might just thrive in the chaos that can be the Avs defensive structure. However that guy is inconsistent AF & people thought they were going grey quickly because of Kuemper. Quick will kill most of this fanbase with heart attacks.

If naz gets signed it’ll be for 7 with an extra year or something. Landy makes 7. Itd almost certainly mean Compher would have to go for picks and we’d have to plug in an ELC or vet min.

Sign naz 7m x 6 years
Lehkonen 4.5m x 5 years
Nuke 6m x 5 years
Manson 4.5m x 4 years
Cogliano 800k x 1 year

22.8 mil

Trade Girard + Compher + a pick for Gibson

Just spit balling but it’s possible to get creative. Wouldn’t love the term on naz though.

I wouldn’t be shocked to see Sakic go after Copp as a Kadri replacement. We apparently were in on him at the deadline and with a depleted farm system and number of picks, we don’t have the capital to trade for a 2C and a goalie if we end up having to.

Since when does Dreger or any other insider have any connections to what is actually going on in the Avs' front office?
Was just going to say, Dreger has been almost completely full for shit for a few years now. He is basically 12th tier as far as any legit info behind like likes of Seravalli, Weekes, Friedman, Pagnotta, Johnston, Lebrun, Lavoie, Strickland, Buccigross, that NRD guy, and the retired Bob McKenzie.

Kadri is gone. We wont pay him 8-9 mill. That would be insane from our standpoint. As much as i love Naz, but Sakic better not kill our cap with this.

If Kadri wants to get paid, he better enters FA.

You don´t pay that money for an 32 old Center, having a career year. As much as i love Kadri and thank him for everything he did this season.

And my first priority would be Val Nichuskin.

I’m a fan for sure and he’s definitely clutch, but we’re kind of going off one year of production here.

Lehkonen’s career high before this season was 31 points. $5M seems a bit steep to me, though I think he’d probably live up to it over the course of the deal.
He's also played on a team where he was the only guy driving any kind of play outside of maybe Gallagher. The JFresh xGF vs xGA Habs chart was pretty telling that he was the only guy that did anything on that team last year and the year before that the Habs majorly overperformed in the playoffs after a middling season.

Kadri is as good as gone. We cannot afford him and I'm 100% fine with him chasing the money. He has been underpaid for his whole career, now has a cup and a chance to cash in after an amazing season.

My guess, he goes to Philly or Buffalo. Good luck there Naz. We need to look elsewhere.

All I hope is that we can sign Nichushkin and Lehkonen to reasonable deals. Team building needs to start from there.

Kuemper I wouldn't give what his market value is. If he comes back cheap that's fine. I've recently warmed up to the idea of bringing Fleury for a ~2M x 1 yrs deal, would give us a lot of flexibility and a goalie that should do at least what an eye injured Kuemper was able to do for one season. No need to use assets, no long term commitments. Evaluate again next summer.

Lehkonen isn't going anywhere. If someone OS's him at $4.5m that would be annoying, especially if it's a one year deal, but that would get matched. I doubt he wants to actually sign an OS though given that he has a top 6 role on a great team and has his friend Rantanen on the team.

I love Naz. Appreciate everything he did for this team.

However, I draw that line firm at 7M. Like, very firm. Even then that's pushing it for me.
Yep, $7m is the max number. Any higher than that and you start having to lose other players you're not comfortable losing. And even then, anything more than 3-4 years is too much.

Servalli says Kadri is high on NYR’s FA list. He also speculates he is such a hot commodity that he could make $8M+/7 years.

Also says Avs can’t pay Lehkonen more than $4M and could be a offersheet target. Which is just blatantly false. We can pay Lehky.
If NYR want Kadri perhaps that's an indication that Copp is hitting the market rather than re-signing in NY.

Why would Seattle back up the truck for Nichushkin? He has more value to teams on the precipice. Seattle’s not a Nichuskin away from contending.

Seattle are rebuilding and a player like Nichuskin can help insulate younger players and/or elevate bad players. He made Jost a passable 3C and Seattle might think he can have a similar impact in their lineup and this worth paying up for.

According to evolving hockey contract projections, they project Lehky to sign for this much. If I'm Sakic, I'm jumping on that ASAP.

Lehkonen on basically the Donskoi contract would be good value for what he brings.

Been on this train for like 4 months now. Jeez, keep up Richard.

Given his weaker 5v5 defensive metrics I'm not sure he's an ideal fit in the top 6 unless Girard gets traded. He's a guy you ideally want on the 3rd pair, but he's not the type you'd want next to Girard (more of a shutdown type RD would be perfect), and that 3rd pair spot should be EJ's spot.

Toews - Makar
Byram - EJ/Walker
Girard - EJ/Walker

Then again maybe you can trust Toews or Byram to insulate him and roll him out on the 2nd pair situationally. The fact that he has good PK metrics is positive and means you can limit his 5v5 minutes but give him more usage on the PK to make up minutes, along with him being able to pick up PK minutes from EJ or Makar in the event of injuries.

Byram/Toews - Makar
Byram/Toews - Walker
Girard - EJ

As a puckmoving RD he'd also mesh well (at least on paper) on the 3rd pairing with JJ or MacDermid whenever they draw in at LD, given that he could be the primary puckmover on the pairing.

I highly doubt that we offer Kadri higher AAV than what our captain got. And even with 7M per year what are we going to do with this in 3-4 years? How many 35+ years old centers are there who are not liability defensively and still contribute offensively? Bergeron, Malkin and that’s pretty much it.

Hope that cap will grow with the inflation and Kadri will not decline fast? It’s not a strategy.

Pavelski too.

Not that I disagree with your point though.
