Also if McDonagh is traded, I wonder if the Islanders are a good fit.

They have $12M in cap space right now with really only Dobson needing to be signed. Dobson will likely get ~4.5-5M on a bridge deal, would leave them just enough space to fit McDonagh in nicely and he would fit a significant need for them of a Top 4 LD.

Not to say you mean anything by this but there should be absolutely zero interest in Georgiev by the Avs.

Husso likely to Leafs

Edit: better not be like last year and all the goalies are gone before Joe realizes it.
Going with Frankie + Annunen is probably not ideal, but it's not an absolute disastrous situation IMO.

How can y'all have these debates passionately so shortly after winning the Cup?
You must be new here

Yes it would be. Like, Raycroft/Budaj-level disastrous.

Bo is 1000% going to take minutes from G if Joe doesn’t trade him. This is identical to Barrie and Makar situation.
Tampa runs on their left side of defense:
Hedman ($7.875m AAV)
McDonagh ($6.75m AAV)
Sergachev ($4.8m AAV)

Why can't we do (at least for 2022-2023 until we see how Byram's next contract looks like)?
Toews
Byram
Girard

Don't we want to be in a position of strength when it comes to transitioning from D to O as so much of our game is built around it?

Tampa is also in the process of getting rid of McDonagh. He probably won't be a Bolt anymore a week from now.

With all their guys on their long term cap hits, it makes sense for them to re-allocate that money.

The Avs still have Byram on ELC so they can afford to wait one more year and still run all 3 of Girard, Byram and Toews.

Hopefully Joe has some creative moves that don’t require moving Girard.

Comparing the situation to last year, it's not nearly as bad. Frankie has been relatively healthy, a lot of the pressure is gone because we just won. Now, I wouldn't like it because the next season should be an all in year with MacK and Byram still playing cheap. Need a decent starter. Not sure I would like to commit for a guy like Kuemper for a big term though.

Fleury for 1 year or Husso for 3 years is who I would go after in FA. As for trades, maybe you circle back on Varly? As far as I've understood he liked it here, he has a NMC so not like Lou can ask for a kings ransom for him if he's willing to move him.

That article says that Anaheim could be willing to retain on Gibson. They also mention later on that they are going to be way under the cap floor so they might have some incentive there.
Gibson’s contract may be prohibitive in term for a goaltender who has been below league average in save percentage for each of the last three seasons – but the Ducks could be willing to retain salary to increase the return. At the right cap hit, Gibson could be a great fit for a playoff team

Also found it interesting to see the Myers cap credit point below. Guessing that Vegas or Tampa will be in on that action.

Francouz + Annunen would indeed be a bit of a disaster if the Avs want to actually contend again. Francouz is a backup and Annunen isn't ready.

The flipside to that argument is that Tampa has Stamkos, Point, Cirelli, Paul, and Bellamare down the middle at Vasilevsky in goal.

Behind MacKinnon the Avs have Compher and an unproven Meyers, and in net no starter.

For what? Did he have a good game against them? I don't even remember noticing him in the Finals.

Not supposed to notice the first year KID playing nothing for minutes in a Stanley cup final. Newhook has looked like a stud plenty of times this year.

Hard for me to believe they'd want to retain a couple of mill for the next 5 years. That is gonna cost a lot.

I appreciate where you're coming from, but a player like Olausson who can transition and snipe the puck would be the perfect dovetail on a line with our two-way forwards. If he can become Burakovsky on an ELC you've got the makings of a great 3rd line, with either Lehkonen or Olausson carrying a big offensive threat on the 3rd line.
If you want him to become Burky he will need to slow down his release a lot when shooting at the net. Just saying.....

The Avs can, for sure. The difference though is that on the right side they have 15 million wrapped up in Makar and Johnson.

MAF still wants to play but he's pretty much done. Probably fine for a regular season but I'd not want to count on him for a cup run.
If MAF only wants $1-2 mil that’s probably the best value option. I think he has enough gas in the tank to be comparable to Husso/Kuemper/Campbell next season.

It also potentially sets us up for a trade for Helle/Gibson next offseason since we didn’t need to waste any assets a goalie.
