Look I loved what Manson brought to the team, but to say he’s more valuable to the Avs than Girard is just not accurate.

If Tampa had been successful at trapping us in the NZ, we would have looked back at not having Sammy as a total detriment to our chances.
Tampa wasn't successful at trapping us in the NZ because our defensemen were skating right through it. Manson was part of that group. It wasn't Tampa Bay just not executing.

Manson on this particular team is more valuable to the Avs than Girard because only one other player does what he does and that's EJ. Makar/Toews/Byram all do what Girard does but they do it better.

Perhaps this POV that Girard is indispensable to the Avs given their reliance on the transition game has nothing to do with fit or efficiency but is instead a matter of short people collectively uniting to convince the Avs of the utility of having mobile munchkins on the team. Seems like another viable conspiracy theory. Bring on Caufield!

Munchkins United!

The moment Bo goes down, our left side is non-existent. Avs shouldn't be trading G just for the sake of it. We still have EJ for another year on the right. Move G in a year when Bo needs a raise and we're forced to move G.

Tricky spot because at that point you could be selling low on Girard when other GMs know Byram is the priority and G will need to be moved. But I agree, can't just trade the player for the sake of it, if a centre becomes available, you pull the trigger.

One more year of either Girard or Byram on the 3rd pair isn't the worst problem to have.

Knowing the Avs, they won't even be playing significant minutes on the 3rd pairing. Someone will get injured. We don't have the sturdiest of d cores, collectively I'm sure we'll miss a full 82 games from Makar/Toews/Byram/Girard/EJ. If not more.

Really? Seriously? You’re asking that question after being around this group for so many years? I always thought you were more of a realist and astute judge of character than that.
You'd think after the pain, you'd wait to subject yourself to more pain. Instead, this board is:

Anyone wonder if the Avs trade-in for a 1st rounder? The mock drafts are all making me wonder if Nazar, Yurov or Lambert will enter 'too good to pass up trading for' territory.

The physical push back at times from Manson EJ and JJ can't be underestimated. Sakic went out and targeted a guy who could both play in the system and play a different style than the rest of the core.

But if you can get a rental to fill that role its better than paying long term for an older guy at 5m because he throws some hits.

How can y'all have these debates passionately so shortly after winning the Cup?
It's only one cup and the core is still young :naughty:

I'd be interested in swapping G for a RHD that has a similar type of contract, but may be a bit more defensively focused.
Why not keep Manson then and trade Girard for something else? (center or goalie).

I think he assumed everyone would still be hungover :sarcasm:

Actually I kinda agree with him, I'm impressed there's enough passion to worry over the roster this much  If Sakic pulls enough another coup this offseason I'll be around to cheer for it, but by and large I don't really care what happens right now aside from re-signing a few guys (MacK extension, hopefully Nuke). I'll be around to call for Bednar to be fired when the team starts next season .500, though.

It would be more of a long-term move. I really liked what Manson brought, and I've been a fan of his for a long time. I don't think his style of play, and his general luck with health is going to let him be an impact player for a long period of time. My thinking here is that we get 4 guys that are going to be long-term solutions here and you can basically ignore the defense.

It is okay to take a breath and enjoy what you have.
I enjoy it believe me...but to me building the team (draft, trades...) is almost as enjoyable as winning.

It wouldn't last long since Toews is more than likely gone in 2 years.

We just won the Stanley Cup and want to win more; that is the exact type of move we shouldn't be making.

Next season has to be an all-in. Last year of the MacK deal along with Byram who will cost a ton, as well. All the chips into the middle to try and win back-to-back Cups.

I was JK but yeah, I’m just enjoying the SC. We’re in good shape whatever happens.

Impossible to be hungover if you keep drinking!

When is UFA day? July 1? I can't keep up in the off-season anymore. Do they still have the tampering period?

I'm not a fan of it but I'm guessing Kuemper stays or the Avs go hard for Jack Campbell. What a crazy rush after a long season to have a few days to turn around and build a contender again. After listening to EJ's Chiclets interview I wonder if he's retiring.
