He was drafted a C. Not sure if he can’t handle top 6 in the NHL or LA had better choices and made him a wing. Are you saying he is worse than Mikko or JTC at 2C?
I mean he’s not been a C at the NHL level. It just doesn’t make sense to move someone like Girard for someone that doesn’t fill a need(or forcing him to play a position that isn’t natural anymore)for us and a 2nd line winger is far down the list.

I hear you it’s just 2C options available are limited. Trochek, Kadri, Malkin, Arnason??? That’s why I’d like to try to pry Gourde away from Seattle.

As far as Kempe I just like him as a player and he made huge steps this year. I don’t think LA wants to get rid of him.

I like Kempe to. But if you aren't filling a hole with Girard it's just a waste of a pretty prime trading asset.

I came here to say the same. Im not even sure I want to trade G to be honest. I know Bo had a great playoff but can he sustain that in a 82 game season. Still has to be seen. I dont doubt he can but I want someone like Girard around in case Bo were to, god forbid, get injured again.

I could very well see Sakic being interested in Necas.

Also Byram being on that list is a surprise, I knew he was a great skater but I didn't know he had high end top speed.
Necas interests me aswell. I watched alot of Carolina the past few seasons and it always felt theres more there when it comes to Necas. He often gets in his own way. Passing when he should shoot and vice versa. Maybe Bednar can get him to reach his untapped potential.

Also the Avs play a high speed, low IQ North-South game. Might be a better fit here than in Carolina.

That's definitely a guy to keep an eye on. He's on the block and if Sakic can't keep Kadri and thinks Necas can play center...

I hope Naz gets 8+ somewhere, he deserves it. Only way we are keeping him is if we go the long-term route and commit to him for 5 years at least IMO. Which wouldn't be bad, I could see him becoming a great #3C option in the future. It's the number that's the problem, but if you find a #2C on an ELC or bridge deal (via Girard trade) then that makes his cap hit easier to swallow in years 4 and 5

I'm of the opinion you do what you can to keep him and Nuke. Lose Bura, lose JTC if necessary. Trade Girard. Only sign Kuemper to a team-friendly deal, I don't think he has much leverage at the moment and seems like a comfortable fit for both sides.

It's time to do the Tampa thing and keep the top boys together while swapping out the bottom 6ers. Time to give guys like Newhook, Ranta, Kaut, Foudy even a chance to earn some ice time. Re-sign the grizzled vets in Cogs and Helm, Sprinkle in a Ben Myers and LOC and there's a bottom 6. Fill it out with another signing if we don't believe in the young lads, as I'm sure we would prefer them to be injury replacements. OO will make the jump the year after next to provide another valuable ELC.

G really had a down year. Let's hope he bounces back and it's not the new G.
I was looking at a picture earlier, he really buffed up after the Vegas series, he no longer has the body of a 14 year old which may affect his speed and agility and this was his bread and butter. He was playing "physical" this year too, I think it got in his head.

I think what happened with Vegas really affected him.

On the other hand, he was really good next to Manson. He needs to stay on the left side with a steady partner.

Bo is 1000% going to take minutes from G if Joe doesn’t trade him. This is identical to Barrie and Makar situation.

One guy that people are forgetting is Sedlak. I doubt he agreed to sign with the Avs to end up in the AHL. It might end up being the case but IMO he will be given a strong opportunity to make the team as the 4C if they don't re-sign Helm.

If we make a Girard trade to LA I hope it's for something like Walker + Grundstrom.
Walker makes one of EJ/Manson able to exit the roster (miss you already) and Grundstrom gets us a very effective bottom 6er who showed up big in the POs

They are going to replace Sturm with Sedlak.

Absolutely not, if we trade G to LA the main piece coming back needs to be a center. They have plenty of them.

I really hope we don’t trade G.
Trading that contract is how we get into cap hell. Toews could legit ask 8+ million in a couple years.

He’s definitely behind the big 3 on the back end but Girard as a number 4 is still insane.

Keeping G and trading Toews at peak value (ie: next week on the draft floor) is probably what's best for this org long term but it's never going to happen.

We'd get quite a haul for Toews with 2 years left at 4.1 per. Easily a top end 2C.

Then you still have Byram and G in the top 4 on the left side. IMO Byram could play next to Makar as soon as next season but it all comes down to how much they trust Byram's health going forward.

I really want to keep our defense in tact for at least one more run. Also would love to keep Manson but I'm not sure how likely that is.

I really think it's EJ's time to move on. I would tell him to go mentor some kids in Anaheim and enjoy life there for a year, and when his deal up he can re-sign here if he still wants to play. Manson was too important to move on from, and I don't see how we can keep both realistically.

Girard for Necas + Bear would be an interesting framework, if you think Necas can play 2C...
