Girard would be an excellent fit in LA IMO. Thought the same thing back in December and still do today.

They dont have much in terms of Top 4 LD and I also think G and Doughty would be a fantastic pairing. They also have some pieces that should/could interest the Avs IMO.

Though LA has been linked to Chychrun a lot and he's probably a better fit, but I think either guy would help that Defense a bunch.

Does anyone else want JT Miller to sign in Vancouver for $9.5m x 8 with a NMC and regress back to being a 60 point player?

I don't think I've watched more than 5 games of JT Miller and I don't dislike him as a person. But a vocal contingent of fans talks about him constantly like a superstar. It would be funny.

Yes, very much yes.

I'm not sure a more delusional group of fans exist then the Canucks fans on the main boards with JT Miller. Its quite insane.

Make it happen, Joe. That 2nd line would be an absolute beast.

Edit: This is just about doable cap-wise if you get slight but not unrealistic discounts from a few guys. If needed you could replace Kuemper with a cheaper goalie to make it work, or trade JTC. It's a 22 man roster with Sedlak and MacDermid as scratches, and $422k in capspace to accrue.

Malkin has played 74 games over the last 2 seasons, and will be 36 next year. He gets hurt waking up in the morning. Give me Trocheck instead.

Yeah you can just swap Malkin for any other 2C at $7m, whether it's Kadri, Trocheck, or someone else.

There would be cap decisions to make in 2023 but that's where you trade one of Girard/Toews and let EJ and JTC go to fund MacKinnon/Byram/Newhook/Meyers.

People are still entertaining the delusion that the Avs might outbid other teams for free agents?
Well, they did win the Donskoi, Helm, JJ, and Ryan Murray sweepstakes....

Really like that Fiala move for LA. They needed a dynamic scorer. I like what they’re building. Clarke should join the team next season and if Byfield takes a step forward they’ll be a force.

That contract is fine too. It’s easy to forget that Fiala is only 25.

Also, I don’t think you can really compare him and Kadri, with Naz being 31.

Kadri will still get a contract that starts with a 7. Maybe more. I imagine the most Sakic offers is 6 on the dot.

Ok. Sure any of those guys over $5 million? Or are people expecting to Trocheck to be in that same price range?

The Avs might need to sign free agents because there's so much roster turnover with little to trade in picks or prospects. But if the Avs outbid for a top tier FA, it will be a first.

But maybe I'm wrong and having this success might draw guys to Colorado. Can't deny that's not a new variable compared to previous years.

I was also doing my own roster simulation and I feel a lot better about our cap situation.

The idea is that we should not sign anyone long term outside Nuke and Lehk (and maybe Kuemper, but we could go short-term with a cheap vet like Fleury/Campbell).

One thing we could do is move Mikko to 2C and add 2 middle-6 W with speed and grit instead of Malkin. Or 1W and a better 6D.

IMO, if Fiala is getting $7.875, Naz is getting over $8 on the market. Joe is probably gonna have to offer at least $7 to even stay in the conversion. I imagine Joe calls and offers what he can, which, in order to keep Nuke, Lehk, and Kuemper as well, will be well below market value. There will be a cordial explanation as to why the offer is lower (I'm sure they've already briefly talked to his agent about it before the season ended), and then a "Thank you for everything" from both parties and a "Good luck" before they move on.

If Mikko is making 9.6, I'm not sure how FIala at 7.9 is an overpay. That seems like a pretty fair contract for what level guy he is.

That's what mismanagement looks like for the Wild.

You make a great trade to get Fiala for Granlund. But then you can't keep him because you have $13M in dead cap space with Suter and Parise who's buyout didn't really give them much cap savings at all the next three years because the deals were so front loaded.

Then they'll have 1 year of Kaprizov with a low cap hit from Suter and Parise, before he all but assuredly bolts for UFA.

They should have found a way to dump Suter and Parise in Arizona instead.
They had two 1sts last year. Pay one of those to Seattle so they can buyout one of those contracts takes the down to $6.3M dead space.

And don't trade for Jost and pay a slug under $1M for his spot frees up at least $1M

Sam Girard for Adrian Kempe then. Go ahead and twist my arm.
