They traded Kahkonen for him, doubt they move him.

Why would Seattle (a rebuilding team) want to sign Kadri at age 32? And why would Kadri want to go to Seattle?
The Kraken want to be competitive too. I think they learned that this year they left a lot of veterans on the table at the expansion draft going for young hard working character guys. Kadri would actually fit their style.

Yeah I figured they would keep Middleton. I didn’t look to see what the Wilds cap situation was like or what Middletons qualifying offer would be. I’d rather keep Manson if possible. He had good chemistry with Girard’s and he eventually adapted to our system.

I hope they only bring back Kuemper if he loved being on a winning team and takes a "discount" relative to what he'll get on the market....nothing he showed this past year makes me want to give him between 5.5-6 million. I think Grubauer was steadier for us. Twelve goalies in the playoffs (min. 5 games played) just finished with a higher save percentage than him...the Avs pretty much just demonstrated they can win with subpar goaltending, so I'm in the either go all in for a top goalie (Gibson, Hellebuyck) camp or get a sub-$5 million goalie to ride with Francouz.

I think it was pretty likely that Kuemper's eye wasn't right, especially with the new news coming out about him seeing an optometrist daily during the cup run. He was above average the last few years, all regular season (pretty healthily so), and up until the eye injury in the playoffs.

I don't think he's a superstar or anything, but I like him more than I ever did Grubauer, and I don't think the available goalies are an appreciable upgrade. Hopefully he can be signed for ~5 million, but if he can't I'm not confident that Husso, Campbell, or MAF are significantly better. I'm also not confident that Gibson, who has had a few bad years in a row now, would light the world on fire here.

For half the money and a 1b backup like Frankie, MAF would definitely be better bang for buck than Kuemper at 6million. Gibson would require using using our Girard trading chip. I think this team proved this year we can win with mediocre playoff goaltending and I personally hope that if Girard is traded that it’s for forward depth. Gibson would be great here no doubt, but wouldn’t have the impact a productive 2C would have.

They're not gonna move Bo, but people are wildly overrating his value right now, largely for the reason they also wont move him, injury concerns. He got though this year which is huge for him and for us... But he's still less then a year removed from contemplating ever playing again, 6 months removed from still having concussion symptoms.

Right now he's still pretty much damaged goods. Which means nobody is going to give up fair value for him, on the flip side he showed glimpses of what he can be for us if he can continue to stay healthy moving forward, which means the Avs aren't going to simply move him for cheap right now either.

...That's also the reason why, unless you get a homerun deal present itself, I dont think they should be trading Girard either. He's your injury insurance for one more year in case things take a bad turn with Byram next season, and its not like running a Top 4 Defense of Toews/Makar/Byram/Girard is a bad thing either. If I'm not mistaken, we didn't even get to see that Top 4 play together for more then ~10 games in the regular season.

If every other avenue for getting a 2C and/or starting goalie fails then sure, you gotta do what you gotta do and 2C is a massive hole that needs to be filled. But only if they cant re-sign Kadri, strike out on UFAs, and Newhook+ isn't enough to entice anybody either.

Girard is not at all the same Dman as when we acquired him.

When he was acquired he had only played 5 NHL games, and his first two seasons he averaged ~25 points.

The last three seasons he's paced 41.6 points (94 points in 185 games) which is impressive considering he doesn't get PP1 time.

Avs can also fill 2C and goalie without trading him (capwise, not necessarily in terms of assets).
I was talking about his mobility. He's not as elusive as he was when we first got him.

And what 2C/Goalie are you going to get without making a trade?

Couldn't disagree more. Bo just made it through a grueling 20-game playoff run without a single minute missed. The concussions will always be in the back of people's minds, but if anything was going to prove that he's here for the long haul, it was this run. And considering he was really, really f***ing good for what he was asked to do I'd argue that his value has actually never been higher.

Regardless, he's untouchable. If you have to, you trade G before him without hesitation.

Kadri said his first choice is to return to Denver.

That's terrific news. However, what worth has he apparently assigned to himself? He already gave the Leafs a team friendly deal, and got railroaded out of town for his generosity. I believe I am the biggest Kadri fan on HF. But if some other team offers 20M more over the life of the contract, that is hard to turn down.

Mac's raise comes with EJ's retirement. If this guy does not do enough research to know this, then it is not worth reading much more of what he has to say.

Toews will be offered more than $5 AAV in Free Agency. His situation is not dissimilar to Kadri, in that he will be 30 at the end of his current contract. That will likely be his last chance at a big contract. So I fully expect Toews to either leave in free agency, or be traded for assets by Sakic after the 2022-23 season. In that case, if Girard goes elsewhere , we are down to Makar and Byram, having moved Timmins, Helleson and Barron for assets which helped win the cup. EJ will be gone by then. Manson will likely be gone. I pray JMFJ is gone, but that is a whole lot of turnover on D in a relatively short time.

Things getting hot already

Has anyone ever done this and then offered a massive contract that the other team didn’t match and end up getting their guy back? Would be the ultimate fleece if said player ended up performing to the level of their new contract.

Interesting . Knew they were tight but surely they had other options like Dumba ? 🤷‍♂️

Not really, they are like seriously f***ed for cap. They might still have to move Dumba yet.

This year they have $12.75M in dead cap space from the Suter/Parise buyouts... the next two years after it jumps up to $14.75M.

They're basically operating like a cap floor team for the next 3 seasons.

7.9 for Fiala? God damn.

I think its pretty good value for LA. He's an extremely talented player... Slow start to his career but the last 3 years he's producing at a 0.91 PPG clip and gotten better every year.

And that's essentially 7 UFA years as well. I think its a solid deal for both sides and Fiala will really bolster the LA forward core.

It's still early in the summer and only one move has been made, but LA just jumped to the top of the Pacific for me with that move.

That’s what I’m getting at. I thought he’d be in the higher 8’s potentially.

Here's the interview.

Really sounds like Kadri is going to chase the money. I don't blame him at all. Sakic will probably need to find himself a new 2C.

I'm completely fine not giving Kadri the contract he's going to demand. Losing him will suck but most likely not as bad as the back half of his next contract will.

That's completely understandable. He's worth a good bit more than we can afford to pay. I don't want to hear that Sakic never picked up the phone. Nothing worse than a guy willing to sign at a discount but never gets that offer. But when he signs his mega deal, I'll wish him the best and be content.
