Regarding Nichushkin, important to note there is very, very little wear and tear on that body. Limited mileage in his career so far. He's just hit 400 games played, most of the established players in his draft year are in the 550-650 games played region(MacK, Barkov, Monahan, etc.).

For me, there's little concern in giving him a lengthy contract. I don't believe he will hit that two-way/power forward decline at age 29-31. Furthermore, I agree we probably won't be super competitive in 6-8 years anyhow so it's best to bring that AAV down as much as possible.

$38.5m over 7 years at $5.5m AAV would be a good deal.
