So Carolina is booting DeAngelo and likely moving on from Bear as well. I get they’re a dump-and-chase team but are they just completely eschewing puck skill on the back end? The corpse of Jake Gardiner can’t possibly provide much offense at this point.

I'm expecting Manson to go back to Anaheim now that he's got his cup, but man would that be awesome.

Avs probably won't have money for Manson unless they get good deals on Nichuskin and Lehkonen and manage to fill 2C for ~$5m. Even then it's a tiiight squeeze if Manson wants $4m.

Maybe they're making room for Girard (the Necas swap)

Yup. Georgiev deal will help though, compared to having to pay Kuemper. So there is a chance..

By far my favorite part about the Georgiev trade is just how much flexibility it gives the Avs now. The biggest concern about cap space for this summer was always around the idea of us having to go from paying out starting goalie $3.5M like we had last year with Kuemper and for 3 years prior with Grubauer... To now having to give Darcy 5.5M+ to stick around.

Now we're going to be paying our #1G likely even less then $3.5M which actually frees up a little space rather then losing $2M in space.

Gives the Avs some nice breathing room in terms of what they want to do with the 2nd line and the Defense. Having a potential wild card trade piece like Girard only amplifies the flexibility. Yeah they can rebuild the Middle 6 without having to use G, but if they do move G we still have 3 great Dmen and even more wiggle room with the cap.

Patrick Kane honestly makes too much sense. He's that perfect kind of piece that once again puts the forward group over the top, he can drive a 2nd line completely on his own. But perhaps most importantly is he's not a long term commitment add either. Just 1 year until he's a UFA so Joe can go all in again this year and then still have lots of space next summer to account for the Byram and Mackinnon pay jumps. If Kane wants out Joe needs to be on that.
I’ll be honest, I’m concerned whether Georgie will be good enough. Time will tell there but it’s a ballsy move.

However, my favorite part of the deal is the fact that Joe learned from his mistake last year and didn’t wait on Darcy to put him in a vice like Gru did. Once Joe figured out what Darcy wanted, he knew it was too much and moved on.

Do we know where Georgiev is?
Didn't actually see that Georgiev asked Rantanen a week ago in Instagram to bring the cup to a well known terrace at Turku so safe to say he's here. Apparently owns a house there as well. Little did he probably know they would be teammates by now ..

*shrug* I'd rather skimp a little on the 2C if it means that we can keep together:

Toews* - Makar
Girard* - Manson
Byram* - Johnson

We can trade a blueliner for a center...if we need to...once we've figured out if we're going to be able to afford Toews' next contract after paying Byram.
