Pick your shittiest 2-3 players, throw them in on each side, let's add a 2nd round pick in 8 years while we're at it. Done deal? It's because of the soft cap. In almost every trade teams have to jump through crazy cap shenanigans to get the salaries within 120% of each other.

That, the limited number of picks, and the stepien rule preventing teams from trading first round picks in consecutive seasons.
