Wonder what Detroit does with Nedeljkovic now. Does he become 1B for them, or so they trade him to the highest bidder?

The important thing here is Detroit and Husso had a deal in place before the trade for a 3rd. If Kuemper wants to test the market then no team is going to trade for him.

The market isn't that big though. Surely his agent already knows what sort of money Toronto/Edmonton/etc are willing or able to offer. Anyone can look at their capfriendly rosters and get a ballpark figure too.

Kuemper and Campbell to the Leafs/Oilers in some order seems to make sense but I wouldn’t count out the Sabres, especially for Campbell. Money talks.

Both getting overpaid too.

The thing with rights deals is that they tend to also fall in the hands of how much a player is willing to negotiate a deal prior to UFA. Guys like Kuemper and Campbell have less of an incentive now to negotiate as the big players are all still out there and the millions are growing.

Lol Darcy is about to get paid there are minimal options and at least 4-5 teams that desperate. We're going to laugh at how bad his contact is come next week. Sakic absolutely made the right call moving on.

Dracy is going to make bank playing Edmonton and Toronto against eachother.

And a 3rd for Husso's negotiation rights? Holy shit, Sakic get on that.
Glad we're not going head-to-head for a starting goalie with Edmonton again. Good job by Sakic to move for a goalie when he did, his timing was perfect. Now just need one of Dubas or Holland to get antsy and trade a pick for Kuemper...

I've said for a year he's going to get the market rate for a starter... it is happening for sure.

Also yeah nevermind about Husso  George will do fine. I'll also enjoy referring to him in the 3rd person ala George Costanza.

I personally think he'll stay there. He had a good start to the year but got really overworked, thanks to Greiss being unable to stop a beach ball.

Didn't help that their defense was in tatters post-deadline either.

I think the Avs can certainly get a decent pick or two for Kuemper's rights and it has nothing to do with allowing the acquiring team the chance to negotiate BEFORE the trade goes down.

We've seen this in the past - a team wants to try and convince a player to sign with them they trade a mid/low pick to that team and try to work something out. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Hell, we've even seen a guy's rights traded TWICE before free agency though I must admit, in my old age, I don't remember who that was. I think if Sakic is pro-active, there's a good chance we get something for Kuemper today.

Great news if true. He was the top priority.

When the Avs get The Franchise signed but you may have to give this 🤡 Strickland credit….

The top pending UFA priority for sure. But once he's done Kadri's replacement is crucial if the Avs want to compete again next season.

Getting Nuke extended well before free agency would be awesome. And kudos to Joe for the savvy move on the goalie front. Georgiev was apparently not going to get a QO from NYR but on the UFA market anything can happen, including having to massively overpay.

I think Campbell winds up in New Jersey, Edmonton gets Kuemper, and Toronto find themselves in a serious pinch, ultimately dealing to San Jose for Reimer or some other scrub.

It was Dan Hamhuis
