If anyone is curious, Jacksonville (our ECHL affiliate) is playing Greenville (our previous ECHL affiliate) in the first round of the playoffs. Jacksonville is up 2-1 at the moment with Game 4 tomorrow. In each game, Charles Williams, who has been a regular in the ECHL for the last six or so years, has gotten the start with Lindlebum serving as the backup.

With Cuylle getting good minutes in the AHL top 2 lines, I really think his upside is 3rd liner in Ryan Clowe type. It would be a waste for him to just get 4th line minutes next year. Brodzinski top line player for Hartford but NHL 4th liner, dont want Cuylle to get that treatment. Put him in a spot to succeed. He is a young player with a future not some AHL vet with no NHL future.

Encouraging that Othmann is having a big playoffs after a lackluster regular season.

He starts in Hartford next year but is called up by Thanksgiving and sticks, IMO.
Hopefully he sticks in Hartford and has a great year. Give him another year of maturity to fight getting infected by whoever coaches the young players on Broadway.

was it that lackluster? not being sarcastic was looking at his team and they just don't score as much as a lot of teams. he was producing well in on his first team and dropped to like pt a game after, so in terms of points, i'm not sure what the whole story is there. just anecdotally i feel like a fair amount of clips posted of goals on his old team were breakaways and rush plays, lately i feel like they're all tips and plays around the net - so that at least lines up with going from a higher event team to lower. if you've been watching him play though and have that impression hopefully it was just boredom.

as far as where he lands next year, i think he finishes the year in ny. between the cap uncertainty and the belief there will be at least one significant move i have no idea what this roster looks like by camp. i've never had less of a read on what could change for this team over the summer...drury is borderline uncomfortably reclusive in providing any insight to how he thinks and hasn't demonstrated any real consistency in ideal roster composition. he may be brilliant, but this summer and the decisions he makes are likely what will define him and the next 5 years, and i need to see to believe.

I actually predicted this. Othmann does have a crazy desire to get better but he has a big ego that can get in his way sometimes. I think he really felt like he played out the league last year so during the regular season he had nothing left to play for and was losing his way, trying stupid stuff instead. Kinda immature but in the CHL that was always gonna be a lost year for him. I still wonder if a limited role with the Rangers would have been the better option. Not ideal either but it wouldn't have led to those bad habits.

Thankfully he was able to turn it back on for the playoffs.

As long as the Rangers dont give him 4th line minutes and groom him as the next Yanni Gourde

?

Yanni Gourde is a very good player. He's also a center and a little guy. Othmann is a bit bigger and if not stronger now will be stronger given time. Othmann's not going to walk into a top 6 spot with the Rangers. Maybe not even a top 9. At least as the team is currently constructed both him and Cuylle will have to work their way up through the lineup.

Othmann is an aggressive hard forechecking and hard hitting player even if he's still a bit light. That's his nature and not something he needs to be taught or is likely to unlearn. His production did take a dip this year......and anyway it's a big step for most players from the CHL to the pros whether NHL or AHL so don't expect 30/40 goal seasons off the bat.......maybe that happens but even as far as the AHL it's a different animal playing against adult pros as compared to teenage junior players. That's why some European players of comparable ages sometimes have an advantage if they've been up against older competition. Othmann did spend a Covid year playing against men in Switzerland so he should be alright.

I like Gourde as a good player but to select a 3rd liner with a 1st round pick is kinda bad asset management but he’d be better than McIlrath Andersson and Jessiman so that’s a good sign.
