The Rangers are known as a first class organization that a number of players have favored coming to over the years. I find it extremely difficult to believe that the Rangers wouldn’t accommodate a player by using his preferred spelling. I’d prefer it because I think it looks a little cooler, but I can’t get myself worked up enough to actually care. This feels an awful lot like one of those topics the media will try to blow up into a real issue, but that 99.9999% of people couldn’t care less about. I’m all for having a video at the start of the year of players pronouncing their names, but in reality 3% of fans will actually care enough to pay attention and those 3% are probably the fans who knew how to pronounce the names to begin with. Casual fans aren’t overly concerned about the native spelling or pronunciation. I’ve also heard a number of announcers remark how they asked player X before the game how he likes his name to be pronounced.

Anyway, not really relevant to this thread but I guess the summary is that I think we’re creating an issue where there isn’t one. I’d rather just relax and enjoy this lovely pastime than try to make everything political.

Two of the playoff series have already ended in the OHL. Peterborough needs to take care of business and wrap up this series.

The Aug 15 date does apply to drafted NCAA players who are no longer registered student-athletes.
But also
- there is a growing trend of guys playing a fifth season in conferences which allow that,
- plus due to Covid impacting some seasons, NCAA is allowing extended eligibility
So this guy could (1)sign w Flyers, (2) could stay in school at BU or elsewhere, or (3) could wait out expiry of exclusive draft rights and be UFA Aug.15

IDK why people would be fascinated with him. He's a decent college free agent (or, soon to be). Philadelphia appears to be banking on their compensatory second round pick being more valuable than he is, so that tells you something about his value, but I think people look at his being a former first rounder and get excited by that. I wouldn't mind adding him to the ranks, but he's probably worth the equivalent of like a fifth or sixth round pick in value at this point.

exactly, but it seems like everyone keeps posting about him like he would be some snag for this org. i wasnt sure if i was missing something
