Just saw this on reddit - Adam Sykora was assaulted during a floorball game and police are investigating. It seems it was bad enough to require surgery, but I can't really tell if Sykora is the one hurt. Anyone able to translate better than Google?

At the secondary school tournament in Nitra, an incident occurred yesterday during a floorball match, in which two Slovak hockey players were involved. A criminal complaint was also filed against one of them.

HK Nitra hockey players 18-year-old Adam Sýkora and 17-year-old Ondrej Molnár participated in the floorball tournament in their school's team. At the end of the match, according to ŠPORT.sk, Adam Sýkora should have been illegally attacked, which led to a fight between the two teams.

In it, Ondrej Molnár was supposed to punch one of the opponents in the face, causing him to break his sled and knock out his teeth, for which he also had to undergo an operation. Subsequently, the police were called, who took Ondrej Molnár to the station, where they interrogated him and then released him. A criminal prosecution was also initiated in the case.

We asked the police in Nitra for a statement. "On December 7, 2022 at around 09:00 a.m. in the city of Nitra, on the playing surface of the floorball field of the Municipal Sports Hall, i.e. in a place accessible to the public, an offense of disorderly conduct in conjunction with bodily harm occurred.

The police are investigating the circumstances of this incident, therefore we will not provide any further information on the facts found so far."

The editors of ŠPORT.sk and Denníka Šport also have a statement from the United School at Slančíková 2 in Nitra, for which Adam Sýkora and Ondrej Molnár played and organized the entire event.

At the school tournament Nitra Region Championship in floorball for high school students, a regrettable event happened for all participants.

The match between SŠŠ Nitra and Zlaté Moravce Gymnasium took place within the rules.

Nine seconds before the end, Adam Sýkora was grossly fouled during an offensive action, as a result of which he flew over the goalpost and ended up on the ground. The referee announced a foul. Adam got up and approached the player who was fouling him and verbally warned him that it was really over the line because he himself was in danger of getting hurt. Immediately the players of Zlaté Moravce gathered around Adam. Our players, including Ondro, ran to them to defend Adam. The situation became confusing and turned into a mutual shove, which the organizers ended within twenty seconds. Ondrej Molnár received the first blow in the face, his lip is torn. Ondro instinctively returned the blow, unfortunately, with disproportionate force, causing injury to the opponent. He acted unintentionally, in the heat of battle and in a whipped atmosphere. He regretted his act and sincerely apologized. The situation of our boys is all the more regrettable because they fought for the school. We are sorry that falsehoods are being spread through social networks, which are damaging not only our school but also Slovak hockey. For the organizer of the competition: Eva Stümpelová, teacher of SŠŠ NItra For the school: Zlata Maniačková, representative of SŠŠ Nitra However, according to one of the witnesses of the incident, Ondrej Molnár was more aggressive and should have attacked another opponent as well. "In the entire conflict, the Nitra players were more aggressive from the beginning. Our guys tried to defend their teammate, because Nitra didn't care, they chased everyone. At that time I was in the middle of everything. Ondrej Molnár chased another teammate as far as our substitution, where he knocked him to the ground and started kicking him, putting his knees on his chin until his tongue fell out. Fortunately, he was not seriously injured in the end.” Both Ondrej Molnár and Adam Sýkora should already report on Monday to the meeting of the under-20 national team in preparation for the junior world championships, which begin on December 26 in Canada. The whole situation is also being resolved by the Slovak Ice Hockey Association (SZĽH). "We are collecting information about the mentioned incident, then we will evaluate it and take a specific position on the matter," said SZĽH spokesperson Peter Jánošík. Adam Sýkora is already a drafted hockey player when he was selected in the 2nd round by the New York Rangers this year. Ondrej Molnár's draft awaits after the end of the current season, on Friday he should not even appear in Nitra's lineup for the extra-league duel with Poprad.

It seems pretty clear to me. Sykora was crosschecked or something and a penalty was called. Sykora got in the other player's face, then the rest of each team got involved. One of the players on the opposing team punched Molnar and Molnar punched him back a lot harder, injuring him.

It doesn't sound like Sykora was injured at all, as he got up immediately after the hit, nor is he under investigation for his actions. That would be Molnar, though since he got hit first, I can't imagine he'll be in any real trouble.

Edit: Some people talking about it in the Molnar thread:

Ollas is 6-4 with a 1.72 and .932 for the team currently ranked 5th in the pairwise. The only bummer is he still has to split starts with the other guy, Borgiel, though that guy is posting numbers close to Ollas so I get it.
A game over .500 with 1.72 and .932? I guess his team is scoring under 2 goals per game in support its goalie.

To correct myself it's actually 6-3-1. His first four starts he gave up 11 goals and was 1-2-1. His last 6 starts, 5-1 with 6 goals allowed.

EDIT: He has faced about 26 shots per game in his last 6 starts and has a SV% of .961.

Ollas is listed at 6'7 on Hockey Database and 6'8 on Elite Prospects. Whatever he's a big boy.

Good stuff from Olas. Look it doesn't mean anything in terms of where he may end up, but it's progression.

At this moment none of the other goalie prospects seem even close to being NHLers. Garand may make it, but he's a long term project.

Respectfully disagree, IMHO, pipeline deeper than i can recall, and
IMHO Garand is top, and maybe most-ready, G prospect.
And Boyko's post-trade work last season was notable.
No urgency, looking forward to how it shakes out over next 2-4 seasons.

Garand's had a rough go in Hartford. I know they stink. But would he be able to have a spot start now at the NHL level or would it be like Huska last season?

Garand is only 20 and in his first year as a pro. Huska was older, but playing against a stacked Colorado team, so it wasn't really fair to him. McKenzie Skapski played 2 games (at age 20) for us in 2014-15, both against Buffalo. He won them both, giving up only 1 goal total, but Buffalo was the worst team in the league that year. So yeah, maybe Garand could do well against a bad team, but I wouldn't put him out there against a really good team.

Yes, it will take a few years before Garand is NHL ready, but you can say that of pretty much any 20 year old goalie. Very few make it to the NHL full time before age 23. His small sample size in the AHL thus far doesn't diminish what he has accomplished previously and shouldn't be any kind of red flag concerning his future performance.

Let's see where he's at by the end of the season, but right now he's still our top goalie prospect.

Of anyone is curious, Tyler Wall is in the ECHL with South Carolina and not doing particularly well. Adam Huska is the backup for Torpedo in the KHL and is doing decently.

It's fine that Garand is a few years away.

For the Rangers it's do they have enough patience to let him do his thing the next 2-3 years down there, and also what to do about the backup situation summer of 2023.

Halak is not coming back.

Well that's not a tough competition. We're pretty much

1. Garand
2. Ollas

3. Boyko

4. Lindbom
Garand
Ollas
Picks and UFAs not in the org yet

Boyko

I'm not really sure there's any other option. The Rangers haven't been in the habit of rushing goalies.

I imagine the backup next season will be another UFA vet. Maybe we bring Talbot back.
