There's college hockey today.

Berard and Chmelař play for Providence and have an exhibition against U Sports team Western Ontario.

Colorado College, where recent draftee Noah Laba plays, has an exhibition game against Air Force.

Omaha, which is Vic Mancini's team, plays an exhibition against Minnesota State.

Michigan rounds up the exhibition schedule for us against U Sports school Windsor. Eric Ciccolini missed all but four games last year, but should be back this year.

Northeastern, where Riley Hughes wears an A, has an "it counts" non-conference game against Long Island University.

Minnesota has a non-conference game against Lindenwood. Could be Brody Lamb's NCAA debut.

Northern Michigan, which is where Kjellberg transferred to, opens their conference schedule against Bowling Green.

The other NCAA guys who aren't playing are Zak Karpa (Harvard), Hank Kempf (Cornell), and Hugo Ollas (Merrimack).

Lots to follow in college hockey this season.

Yeah, I 100% agree. I'm sure there are players in this situation that have been signed and proved to be shrewd acquisitions, but I'd wager the vast majority amount to nothing (and there aren't very many to begin with).

Xhekaj (actually it's an X not a Z) is a 6'4 220 lb. defenseman with decent offensive skill who hits like a truck and is going to be a legit top 5 heavyweight in the NHL if he makes it which I think he will. He moves pretty well too. There's just too many intangibles in one player here. He ended up on the Hamilton team in their Memorial Cup run this year and was one of their leaders. He's actually knocked out or bloodied guys his size in fights....and he looks for it. Montreal signed him a while ago. This year will be his first year as a pro.

Chmelar had an assist in the exhibition game.

Kjellberg picked up an assist for NMU in their opener. That game is still in the first period.

Until his strong 2nd half last spring, and transfer, i hadn't exoected Kjellberg to be signed. Now, maybe ...

Yeah he's definitely in the conversation for a contract, I would think. I mean I still don't really see a legitimate NHL prospect in him, but he may be worth a shot.

Rangers never sign these types
Just catching up on posts from the past few days and this statement led me to the "way back machine."

So ladies and gentlemen, let me reintroduce Rory Rawlyk.

After going undrafted as an 18 year old WHL defenseman he attends the 2001 Rangers development camp and signs with the Rangers. He plays two more years of junior and then joins the organization where he barely gets a sniff of Hartford let alone the Rangers. He is now coaching in Thailand. His story is in the attached link. The Life & Times of Rory RawlykThe Life & Times of Rory Rawlyk. His linked in page says he signed a contract after playing with the Camrose Kodiaks when he was 18. https://www.linkedin.com/in/rory-rawlyk-611753139/?originalSubdomain=th

I agree with those of you who say the chances of signing an undrafted player at 18 is very unlikely to work out.

The Rangers have been very active in the NCAA free agent market so it's not like the team is passing on undrafted players.

Dan Girardi was undrafted and signed and had a great career. But he was not 18 when signed.

Tarnstrom is apparently on loan indefinitely to an Allsvenskan club, after not really doing much to start the year with Rogle in the SHL.

I'm really excited to follow along with what BMB does this year. He was my favorite pick of the 2022 crop, and I think he was realistically closer to a late first rounder compared to where he went. His second half of the year was really strong, and his production only wasn't better because of SSM having Rory Kerins as their go-to guy. He's in line for a huge bump in his role, and despite SSM not being as good as last year, I still have pretty high expectations for him. His skating looks a bit quicker from the bit I've been able to see from him this year too.

Edström was called again for hitting another guy in the head, in his SHL season debut. He was kicked out, and, given his suspension history, will almost certainly be suspended again.

He's too big and has a borderline predatory mentality. He could be a really nice fourth line option in North America, though I'm sure he'll probably get suspended here, too.

EDIT: It's important to understand that most of the leagues in Europe and the IIHF just outright ban hits to the head. There's not the discretion that you have in the NHL like "did the player put himself in a vulnerable position where contact to the head was unavoidable," like what Lindgren and Trouba always benefit from.

I’d be pretty shocked of that is a suspension. The guy literally turned into him( nothing he could do) and Edstrom was as low as he could possibly be when he made the hit. Don’t like that call at all. Big guys are allowed to hit and if they suspended that then he should come play in the AHL at this point.

I don't disagree with your thinking, but they reviewed that hit and determined it was a head hit under their rules, and threw him out. Go en that he's a multiple-time offender, I think another suspension is given, but who knows.
