I wouldn't assume Pitlick and Wideman are going to end up in Laval, they have to go on waiver and agree to be in the AHL to begin with. They may very well start the season in the press box with the Habs.
They don't have to agree to be in the AHL. Only Gallagher has a NMC among the bad contracts.

Piktlick passed waivers last year and anyone who wants Narrow-man can have him.

If we lose both Pitlick and Wideman, we can add the 6th vet in a minor league trade after the training camps end.

A player can always refuse to report to the AHL team, it's happened before. Wideman may very well ask to be released from his contract instead.

We have 24 skaters right now (and 3 goalies) so at least 4 players will need to go down to Laval to get the number of players to 23. This could include guys like Wideman, Pitlick, Harvey-Pinard, Ylonen, Pezzetta, Kovacevic or even vets such as Armia and Hoffman.

That's not even counting an additional prospect like Roy, Farrell, Reinbacher, Beck or Heineman that could force his way onto the team.

Really having a hard time with the organizational philosophy. I understand signing veterans to NHL 2 way deals if you intend for them and not the prospects to be injury call-ups. If not, then just sign guys like Maillet who is already 30 to AHL deals for bigger money say 1M and not have to deal with them clearing waivers. If disaster strikes and you need them in the NHL you can always give them a contract during the season. Not like Montreal doesn't have the money to do this. Looking for an NHL paycheck seems more important to the local guys, than playing at home, so do something about it.
LOL!!!

The reason AHL guys don't have to go on waivers is they are ALREADY available for free to every NHL team! If Maillet were having a good season, anyone could poach him.

We "lost" Dubé in the off-season, but you can actually lose guys like that any time. It's not even really a loss, since the Habs do not own the rights to guys with AHL contracts.

The only exception is guys in their first two seasons post draft (four years for Europeans), like Davidson this year. He could be safely signed to Laval for one year.

So The Laval Rocket could look like this this year:
Gignac-Maillet-Ylonen
Heineman-Pitlick-Stephens
Farell-Condotta-Simoneau
Kinney-Mysak-Roy
McKay

Beaudin-Keeper
Struble Wideman
Trudeau-Mailloux
Norlinder-Tourigny
Galope au -L.P Jones

Primeau dobes
You forgot Davidson. I see Kidney and Mysak in TR.

I think Primeau and Ylonen have to go thru waivers.

What's up with Bourque ?

the Canadiens/Rocket executives are probably waiting to see Davidson. at development camp if they sign him(probably ahl deal). No info on Bourque but There was a rumor about the possibility of signing Daniel Wialcott.

He doesn't want to be there. There's literally no point in sending him back.
Yeah I just don't like rewarding players who didn't care enough to compete in their junior league.

He can go back to Slovakia for all I care, I wouldn't expect him to be as good as Mysak in the AHL next year, who can barely crack it as a gritty AHL 4th liner.

What could we possibly expect from Mesar in the AHL?

Very different team in 23-24 for sure, with the influx of prospects alone. They're going to need to sign a few more AHL vets to hold everything together. It does feel like they mostly wanted a clean slate though, they made little effort to keep the vets they had.

Ask and ye shall receive... Lias Anderson signed today to a 2-way deal.

Maillet, Keeper. There's still Gignac. Also curious if they bring back Abbandonato and/or Dello.

Antohny Marcotte mentioned a few days ago that Montreal was interested in signing Walcott. If they did do, that is another vet. And a vet that brings some jam and sandpaper. With Keeper, that would be two vets who can protect the young guys.
I'd be glad to have him, just to get him out of Syracuse  We play them a hundred times a freaking season.

Walcott has been in Syracuse since 2015. And he played two years in Blainville under Bouchard. So I imagine he's contemplating staying in Syracuse now that Joel is the new coach. I hope he chooses Montreal.

Sylvain Lefebvre type of lineup jesus christ. Yeah let's put three of our best offensive prospects on the bottom 6. See how that works out.

Just stack the team with the youngsters, including Slaf.

I think Slaf would be fine in the NHL though, but seems like a good idea to let all the prospects learn together.

They better not f*** up Joshua Roy's development in Laval by playing him on the 4th line.

If they stack the team with all the prospects it would legit be more enticing to go watch Laval games than Montreal.

You always want to find a certain balance, match the younger guys with a few vets they can learn from, etc. The AHL is a hard league on rookies and it can be a long, miserable season if the team is doing terrible and there's no leaders in the locker room. It really helps having a few guys with some experience in the big league on the roster.

How many youngsters would be on the team? I'm not up to date with every player's situation.

Slaf
Mesar
Roy
Farrell
Ylonen
Kidney
Heineman

Mailloux
Barron
Trudeau
Reinbacher
Struble

Leaves 5 spots upfront, 1 spot on the blueline. If Barron stays in the NHL, 2 spots. Isn't that enough?
