What's the word with Abbandonato? I remember seeing him in junior and liked his game, but don't watch much of Laval. He seems to keep progressing, at least statistically. Any 4th line potential at all or just a career AHLer?

Came here to post something similar. Purely stat watching, shouldn’t they be signing him to an NHL deal based on his progression? I get he’s older but seems on a pretty good upward projectory.

Doubt it. He's AHL caliber. This doesn't mean he won't earn an NHL contract (similar to how Belzile and Schueneman did. They were also signed to AHL deals first and then earned NHL deals). And if he does, he might get a call up at some point for a few games.

But ultimately, he's AHL level. Similar to Barre-Boulet. Great for the AHL, but not good enough for the NHL.

It doesn't take away from Abbandonato. Because this guy's been solid for Laval all year. And I could see him earn an NHL deal if he keeps this up.

What happened to Lukas Vejdemo? Retire?

He's still rehabbing the injury he got during last year's playoff run with Laval. Sounds like he tore his thigh muscle from the bone, and he needed surgery to reattach.

It sounds like he's getting closer to a return and is looking to sign with an SHL club before their deadline of February 15.

A really recent news article on him. It's in Swedish but you can use Google translate.

Hopefully it won't derail him. This is his biggest injury. But he's gotten hurt a few times recently. I really like Fairbrother.
It's usually double whammy for prospect. Lost a year of development time plus injury to body. Usually many prospects under Neath him pushing by. They get lost in schuffle. But he has chance, work hard and take no more injuries

A name that's totally fallen off our radar with all the injuries he's had is Teasdale. For the Rocket fans, is this just a hot streak or he could still be a late bloomer a la Jeannot?

It's not really "late blooming" in his case, he had multiple long term injuries that made him miss lots of development time since going pro. The end result is that he only has 100 AHL games played over 2.5 seasons instead of ~180.

This might be a bit premature, but I'm having a hard time finding the answer online.

What is the cutoff date for players to be able to participate in the AHL playoffs? They have to play with the team before X date to be able to participate or am I wrong? (Like I recall Pezzetta not being able to play in the playoffs last year etc)

Assuming we would participate, any chance the Habs could send reinforcements to the AHL to have them play meaningful games rather than finish the season in the NHL?

Send down Barron Ghule Slaf Xhekaj Harris etc?

They need to be on the roster at 3PM on trade deadline day. But it doesn't mean they get sent down in person. Some of the guys are only sent down via paper transaction simply to make them eligible.

Just don't expect the prospects who would be eligible, but played the whole year in the NHL to be sent down for the playoffs. Guys like Harris, Guhle & Xhekaj could be eligible. But it would be surprising if they send them to Laval. They'll prefer to let them have the full off-season to prepare for next year.

The only players that don't need to be on the roster on deadline day are prospects in Junior, college or Europe. They are allowed to join when their years are done.

This is why Roy, Kidney, Norlinder, and Heineman were able to join the team after their seasons were over. Norlinder and Roy got to play in the playoffs. Kidney didn't play. And Heineman was injured so he never got to play.

Too early to say, he's gone from off the radar to someone to keep an eye out for. He's in his age 24 season, he's not that quick but aside from a bit of slump that saw him pick up just 1 pt in 6 games, his production has been very surprising. We'll see where he's at by the seasons end and what it could mean for the future.

The problem is he was slow/poor skater before the major knee injuries, so he's going to need a lot of work to get quicker but he's got some decent hands and plays a bit of a power game. He's got 17 pts in the last 17 games so that says something. I was really impressed with him when he was on that Poehling line before they all got injured, that line was doing great for Laval at the time.

I think he'll end up being a career AHL'er. I can see him get a call up to play some games with the big club. But I'm not sure he'd be able to establish himself as an NHL'er. But you never know.

What I do know is that he's great for Laval. He has 2 pts so far tonight after 1 period. He's got a total of 67 pts in 101 games with Laval. That's pretty good for an undrafted UFA.

The Dcore should be fun to watch next year in Laval:

Fairbrother - Norlinder
Trudeau - _______
Struble - Beaudin

That's a lot of LD's

I think it will be curious to see if they'll bring Mailloux up as of next year.

He's missed a lot of time the last two years, but he is eligible to turn pro next year. Will they send him back to Junior to continue to develop there? Or would they prefer to have him in Laval and have a more hands on approach to his development?
