Normally I'd say yes, and did a couple weeks ago before Toronto got O'Reilly but I feel a bit different now. Let's be real, are we confident in Killorn, Cirelli and Stamkos as our second line with Paul, Colton and Names as the 3rd? If the 1st line gets shut down by Bergeron or O'Reilly (hypothetical as I can't recall anybody locking them up), then we are reliant on a middle 6 with barely any offensive prowess. Like These are the Days has been saying, how many times do we try to snuff the opponent out and win 2-1 or something? We've done it for 2 cups, yes, but this team has lost the pieces that got it done. We lost 11 goals IIRC from playoffs alone with Palat. Adding a 1-3 goal postseason guy with good defensive abilities might not even help us through one round.

All I'm saying is that, the tide feels like it turned so far. Brisebois still has time of course, but it feels like the gap is really close now and the moves other teams have made were A+ for them and rough for us to witness.
I don't disagree with any of that except that I don't see an offensive fix. I think our main weapon boils down to "knowing how to win," which often means taking as few risks as possible, and recognizing opportunities when they show up. If Stamkos can maintain last year's level of play in this playoff year, this could actually be our best offensive group, because we have Kuch, Point, and Stamkos playing elite level hockey all at the same time. We also can probably bank on Killer not going ice cold like he did last year. Hagel has matured, Paul is still the same guy.

To me, it just seems like any more offense is a luxury, whereas getting some energy and speed in the bottom six brings us up to par and makes us more balanced. One of the most glaring differences this year is Maroon, Bellemare, and Perry have all seemingly lost a step, so we don't have that better-than-average 4th line anymore.

ADD: I must admit though, the trade board is kind of intriguing with how cheaply MTL seems to be willing to part ways with Drouin. Maybe I'm a sucker for a prodigal son story, but I feel like if his attitude issues are behind him, our staff can salvage something of a career for that guy. Getting him at 2.75 with a chip on his shoulder might be worth the risk of having to bench him down the line...

I'm with you on the Drouin option if it costs nothing and we've struck out on our other options. He's been heating up lately and I think it would be invigorating to play with his old teammates and in a less toxic market. We could give him the option of a one year extension at a low cap hit to remove the pressure of performing in the playoffs, and then work on rebuilding his career over the summer/next season.

I think it's pretty much between Devils and LV for him at this point, with the Devils reportedly being the favorites in landing him
Expected

I guess the argument is that we could get assets back for Meier if we flipped him in the summer. But he comes with a $10M qualifying offer and that sets a hard deadline for flipping him.
Yep, seems like a bridge too far right?

The reason Meier costs so much is because he ends in RFA status. OK, we could possibly pony up the assets needed to get him but then no way we'd keep him, He'd be a lame duck acquisition. Not saying it's impossible but there are way too many teams out there who would be in a better position than us to get him.
His qualifying offer is $10m. His RFA status is kind of a crapshoot in value

Yeah, in all honesty it would be more about letting our development staff get their hands on him again. It's not like I think he can reclaim his 80 point potential, but I don't think it's crazy to believe we could turn him into a 35-45 point middle-six winger, and a guy who can hit Ross Colton on the tape once in a while. If the cost is Namestnikov and a mid-rounder, I think it's well worth the risk.

As for this year, well, we're giving him the chance make a deep run in a contract year. At the very least you would have to think he will be motivated. Just seems like a low risk, medium reward deal. Although I realize it's far fetched, given the only place Drouin's name seems to pop up is with disgruntled MTL fans.

When is the last time so many teams in the same conference improved this substantially at a TDL?

This could change the dynamics on whether Nashville will actually be seller at the deadline and embrace a rebuild or not.
(Lmao didn't think I'd see Trotz GMing)

It’s why he didn’t accept a new coaching gig. He’s always wanted player personnel control.

I bet he’s good at it.

Labanc with retention could be a great Namestnikov upgrade...
(under contract next season as well)

Jeannot, Lafferty, and a dman wouldn't be a bad deadline for us tbh.

Put Paul in the top 6. Make Cirelli and Killorn the shutdown 3rd line, then put the school bus old people line back together

Can Jeannot stop 6 goals from going in? Lol

What exactly are you looking for?
It is according to what direction JBB wants to go . Does he want to add scoring to make up for the increased goals we are allowing if so Tanner Jeannot is not the guy. If JBB wants to go the other route he needs defense or at least a shutdown forward again Jeannot is not the guy.

The way I see it we only have room for one guy. Jeannot is not really much different than Names. Sure Jeannot had a good goal year last season but he played top 6 much of that time. This year he has 5 goals in 56 games.

I could see Foote going to Nashville. D-men are kind of their brand, and may think they can make him a player.

Jeannot is literally the prototype of F you want your bottom6 to have in the playoffs: grit, mean, hits a ton, net-front presence and quite a good shot.
