I don't disagree with any of that except that I don't see an offensive fix. I think our main weapon boils down to "knowing how to win," which often means taking as few risks as possible, and recognizing opportunities when they show up. If Stamkos can maintain last year's level of play in this playoff year, this could actually be our best offensive group, because we have Kuch, Point, and Stamkos playing elite level hockey all at the same time. We also can probably bank on Killer not going ice cold like he did last year. Hagel has matured, Paul is still the same guy.Normally I'd say yes, and did a couple weeks ago before Toronto got O'Reilly but I feel a bit different now. Let's be real, are we confident in Killorn, Cirelli and Stamkos as our second line with Paul, Colton and Names as the 3rd? If the 1st line gets shut down by Bergeron or O'Reilly (hypothetical as I can't recall anybody locking them up), then we are reliant on a middle 6 with barely any offensive prowess. Like These are the Days has been saying, how many times do we try to snuff the opponent out and win 2-1 or something? We've done it for 2 cups, yes, but this team has lost the pieces that got it done. We lost 11 goals IIRC from playoffs alone with Palat. Adding a 1-3 goal postseason guy with good defensive abilities might not even help us through one round.
All I'm saying is that, the tide feels like it turned so far. Brisebois still has time of course, but it feels like the gap is really close now and the moves other teams have made were A+ for them and rough for us to witness.
To me, it just seems like any more offense is a luxury, whereas getting some energy and speed in the bottom six brings us up to par and makes us more balanced. One of the most glaring differences this year is Maroon, Bellemare, and Perry have all seemingly lost a step, so we don't have that better-than-average 4th line anymore.
ADD: I must admit though, the trade board is kind of intriguing with how cheaply MTL seems to be willing to part ways with Drouin. Maybe I'm a sucker for a prodigal son story, but I feel like if his attitude issues are behind him, our staff can salvage something of a career for that guy. Getting him at 2.75 with a chip on his shoulder might be worth the risk of having to bench him down the line...
