I agree.

If I had to put money on it, I'd bet that we've made our last best offer and it felt well short of their ask. I think it is likely not the best offer they've gotten and almost certainly won't be the best offer they will get. However, if they circle back to us and say that they would accept what we previously offered, I do think that we would still go through with it even though we signed Leddy. I think the odds of that are extremely low.
You mentioned previously Arizona could wait til next year's trade deadline with 1.5 years left and still get a 1st and a prospect (and if he has fully returned to form, more) and I agree with that. Doug Armstrong certainly knows that too and presumably would have to make a best offer now that is better than that future price or else what's the point/why would the Blues be mentioned as real suitors?

What would you speculate the Blues' current last best offer is?

The incentive for offering less than that is if you believe that Chychrun's desire to get out of Arizona has reached or is reaching a boiling point. If his actual conversation was 'get me the hell out of this garbage fire' and he's using a minor wrist issue as a justification for skipping camp, then the Coyotes might need to move him before the player goes public and demolishes the team's leverage. In case that is true, it isn't a bad idea to throw something at the Coyotes on the off chance they have to pull the trigger quickly. Again, I don't think we have the best offer on the table, but the Armstrongs have a past and probably talk 'off the record' enough to bounce around ideas and know what the other guy values.

I'm guessing we've offered a 1st and a couple non-high-end prospects we know B Army likes. That's in the ballpark of what a rental Chychrun would look like down the line, it offers the immediacy of a 1st round pick instead of a pick 1-2 years down the line and it probably helps Arizona tank for Bedard right now.

I'd offer Neighbours + 1st + Scandella for Chychrun + lesser pick. They have plenty of future picks, but no extra 1sts. I like Neighbours but don't see him having the high-end upside to make us really regret trading him. We really need a top 4 defenseman that's on the right side of 30. The Leddy contract is unfortunate, but his NTC expires before we would have to re-sign Chychrun at least.

Do you read the situation as one where Chychrun requested/demanded a trade behind the scenes? I'm wondering whether he may have done so last season, no trade materialized, he got hurt, stayed on Arizona. But his expectation was that he'd be traded before the end of the offseason, and that also hasn't happened.

It doesn't mean BA has to trade him, but there is enough bad press about Arizona that a player dispute would be more damaging there than it would be to the average team.

I don't see Neighbors moving anywhere. I doubt Bolduc is available.

But I agree it would likely take a 1st and one of Neighbors/Bolduc/Snuggerud rather than a 1st and a couple of B prospects Bill is known to like, because how would another team not offer a 1st and a strong prospect?

Throwing away Neighbors and a 1st for a dude that's always hurt is crazy. If we want a permanently injured player then we already have Perunovich.

Yeah chychrun is always seemingly on the Injured list every year. Last year he had an ankle injury in March that ended his season and now we find out he recently had wrist surgery and is rehabbing from that. I'd rather not spend assets on him at all right now unless it's for a massive discount

It's a risk, but in my mind he is exactly what we need.

So Ameren is taking over from the Gateway Honda Dealers on the power play goals for sick kids. Regional car dealership owners are some of the lowkey millionaires in the country, and last season they got HUNDREDS of promo mentions about their ultimate donation. Then the Blues scored 65 power play goals but they paid out for 56, paying $28,000. They cheated the kids by $4,500.

Will the utility company milk the PR then cheat the sick kids like the greedy Gateway Honda Dealers? We'll find out!

Stars fan here… any links (audio/video) for preseason game tonight?

No video that I could find, but I only checked the few places I know where I can legally watch, So someone else might know of a stream somewhere.

101 ESPN radio has the Blues radio feed. You can access it through the Blues NHL.com page, there should be a link to the station's site where you can listen.

Yeah, it's always funny when the official account teases something, but it's never anything that anyone actually cares about. If it was a trade, and the official account broke it, it would just be the announcement. If there was an extension, we might get something along the lines of a press conference announcement, not a vague tweet.

Probably some solid takeaways here for opening night.

Yeah the roster is coming together. I think the forwards are mainly set, with only one open spot remaining:

Buchnevich-Thomas-Tarasenko
Saad-ROR-Kyrou
Barbashev-Brown-Schenn
Walker-Acciari-Pitlick
Leivo / ??

Only thing I can't really figure out yet is what they will do with Neighbours. I think they want him on the team and Berube clearly likes him, but if he's not among the top 12 (or even just the top 9) then I guess he'll start the season in the AHL. He's not going to be a spare, even though he has done a lot more than Kostin, Frk, Highmore, etc. to make the team.

Although with Toropchenko's progress, maybe he doesn't even need to go on IR and they will just keep Toro as the 14th forward until he's ready for games, which may be soon.

I love the concept of a Blues Hall of Fame. There are a ton of guys I'd like the organization to honor that don't rise to the level of number retirement. I also like that the inaugural class includes the 8 retired numbers and two non-players. I also like that they opened up a fan vote to help determine an additional player (or players?) to join those 8 in the inaugural class.

But their self-described criteria for induction as a player is bizarre. They claim that a player must have won a Cup or a major award as a Blue, which would eliminate most of the guys that you can vote on to join inaugural class. Berenson, CuJo, Oates, Unger, Tkachuk, Turgeon, Backes, Arbour, and Babych all fall short of that criteria, but are included as candidates. That's two-thirds of the candidates.

Details of the announcement aside, I think this is great. I love when teams have a level of 'honor' that falls short of numbers in the rafters. I'd like everyone on that list to be honored by the team in an official capacity even though I wouldn't retire any of their numbers.

Any guesses as to who goes in first?

Limiting it to 4 like the cardinals do, I’ll go:

Hull
Plager
Federko
Pronger

I think the first 3 are locks, the 4th spot could also be Sutter or MacInnis
All 8 guys with retired numbers are going in automatically (along with Sid Salomon Jr and Dan Kelly). At least one other person will be joining that class, but they didn't specify how many more people would be going in.

It'll be interesting to see who gets the last top 9 spot between Brown and Neighbours. Both have probably done enough to earn it. Sinec Neighbors can go down, it would make sense to start that way and come up if someone struggles early or when injuries hit.

Probably some solid takeaways here for opening night.

Was about to ask where Brown and Highmore were but then looked at Korac’s other tweets. Highmore is out there in white; Korac simply missed him at first. And Brown is also missing and Angello is in concussion protocol.

Hopefully Tarasenko and Brown have just minor dings so they gave them the morning off.
