Guys like EK and Burns aren't interested in a rebuild. They want a chance to compete.

Only way out of this mess is trading them (good luck) or to buy them out. You do that and then enter a looooooooong rebuild.
EK signed a mega-deal when it was crystal clear that the Sharks were on the verge of a collapse. Dude is dumb as bricks if he really thought that team was going places. You chose the money, suck it up.

They can still trade pieces and guarantee to finish right near the basement. Instead they will try to be competitive and make the playoffs.
Who are they trading to guarantee that? Those 4 players mentioned are still (somewhat) useful plus they have Hertl/Meier/Ferarro plus an up and comer like Bordeleau. The pieces that are moveable on that team aren't going to move the needle in terms of bottoming out.

The only way to bottom out is to ship out guys like Hertl/Meier/Couture/Karlsson. That isn't going to happen, though.

Could have traded Hertl and/or Meier and went full rebuild, team chose limbo instead. The roster screams rebuild, but they don't want to commit.

Again, though, even trading Hertl and/or Meier doesn't mean bottoming out completely because other rosters are still worse. Despite the bad contracts players like Couture/Karlsson/Burns are still good players.

I see the Sharks' line of thinking here even if I'd personally go scorched earth. They realize nobody is taking the bad contracts so might as well try to make runs at the playoffs while they have them and lock up the actual great players in Hertl/Meier.

Yep. EK is not the brightest light if he really thought the Sharks are going for it. He choose the money, that´s ok. Now deal with it.

But Hertl is not the brightest light either. Still don´t get it that he signed a new contract there wasting his prime years. The Sharks wont be sniffing for a cup for a (very) long time. He could have gotten way more money as FA and played, for at least, a contender (rumors had the Rangers big on him)...... I mean, at least it´s honorable that he values family life higher than money.

And good luck trying to trade the contracts of EK, Burns, Vlasic (2 of them with NMC, btw)..... Doug Wilson really screwed it up with those 3 contracts......

For San Jose's sake, I hope he's better as a GM than his brother is. The Dolphins always make me cry...

Don't know if it's been mentioned or not but former fan favorite T.J. Hensick is playing in the summer 3ICE league/tournament thing. Was catching up on articles at the Athletic and saw it. Going to have to look up the games and see if I can catch some.

Remember being so hyped about this dude. Roaming the net looking for game highlights of him in Michigan.

I'm surprised any of them are going back to Russia right now
Same... get out and the US/Canada will gladly keep them from the Russian military. Depending on how things go in Russia though, they may not be able to go back for a very long time.

Maybe Mikko and Artturi should step into the greens soon as well!
