Colorado has had 7 different coaches in their history. Every coach, besides Quenneville, it was their first time being an NHL head coach, so history kind of shows that they don't go with retreads (usually because these first timers are cheaper).
Also, on your first sentence. These retread coaches may have just been fired, but they are more likely to succeed than a first time head coach. There's something like 13-14 head coaches currently that are in their first NHL head coaching job. Some of these coaches, like Cooper and Bednar, that have shown success will get placed into coaching pool and probably be fired and hired multiple times depending on how long their careers go. There are countless NHL coaches that never get into the situation to be fired and hired multiple times, mainly because they just aren't that good.
