Are physical copies of a video game even a thing nowadays?
Yes. Big games eat up space.

Although come to think of it on PS5 I haven't had to think of that much.

There's a 23 year old Cup-winning, Conn Smythe-winning, Norris-winning, Hobey Baker-winning, Calder-winning defenseman to choose from, but eh....naaaaaah. Let's go with the guy who did that neat flippy move once

Zegras is the kind of player that speaks to the target audience: 12-year-olds.

I don't really pay attention to the console stuff, so you buy digital copies of games from different sources and just can't have them on your library and install whichever you happen to play at that time period? The equivalent of Steam is what I'm saying basically.

I think you can with the storage cloud and stuff. I don't play enough to consider these things, though.

I have to juggle my games in Switch. Put one in archive, redownload the one I want to play etc.
Yeah, I had to do that on Switch, too. So on that, there was definitely an incentive to just find a physical copy.

They probably offered it to Cale and he was like, "no, I am good, I will just sit over here with my Slurpee".

But on Xbox One (not sure about X/S), you have to download the game to the console anyway  I haven’t purchased a physical disk since release day 2013

It looks more like a shitty pop music album cover for a high school band with two members who coincidentally seem to like the classic combination of hockey and palm trees. Shit.

The album is probably called "The Games We Play" by "Tasty Radish" or some shit. Shit.

Totally agree. It looks like some bullshit Nickelodeon cover. Surprised there's not slime coming down the sides.

I've no issue whatsoever with them picking Zegras--he's an exciting player to watch and he's got personality to spare in a sport that has virtually none. There will be plenty of opportunities for various Avs players to grace the cover of a video game in the years to come.

Man the NHL 23 trailer was f***ing dogshit. $70 for a new diving animation, a girl's league and crossplay that should've been added for free in an update two games ago that won't even be included at launch. Seriously, what the f*** do these developers do all day?
This is the EA business model. Pull in a ton of cash off 7-8-9 'games' in a generation where only one is a legit new game... the rest are roster updates.

"Coming up next, one of them is a mixed race woman, but the other one isn't so whites will watch it. An all new Trevor x Sarah on Disney Channel." And the screen shows them back to back with their hands crossed, and then playfully pushing each other.

Haven't played NHL games since I switched to the PCMR, but I miss it so much. They just don't port them to PC and haven't for like over a decade.

That being said, my wife plays on both PC and PlayStation (currently PS4, can't get our hands on a PS5 for the life of us) and I'm thinking of picking this up. Is it worth it, since I have no recent version of the game, or should I look for a 2021/22 version and nab it instead and just update the rosters accordingly?

I actually like the visual look and you know, the women's hockey stuff (even though no one will use it), and the arcadey dekes, and pond hockey modes and all that. But where I know it's no longer made for me is how e-ve-ry-thing is video chat banter, streaming, and a skin you can buy, or a massive online mode with accomplishments that don't progress the game.

Just keep updating the game mechanics and I'll keep grinding through an offline mode by myself and talk to no one while I do it.

The last time I was super into a hockey video game, it looked like this.

That looks old. Is that before or after Blades of Steel?

We were playing Ice Hockey on NES and then Blades of Steel came out and it was revolutionary.
