Ugh, this is not good news for NHL aesthetics. The NHL is looking the best it ever has since the Adidas takeover.

Nike or Fanatics is gonna try and revolutionize the hockey uniform!! With some stupid system like the Reebok Edge....

Matthew Tkachuk is such a jackass. Claims he left money on the table on his last deal, when he got $7M x 3 as a 21 year old. Tries to spin that he took a high dollar amount that took him straight to UFA asap instead of signing long term with Calgary as "leaving money on the table."

Guys like him an Gaudreau always want to have their cake and eat it too. They want to bail on their teams and get what they want, while denying they wanted to leave. If you didn't want to leave, you would have stayed. Clearly Calgary was offering plenty of money to both players.

I don't see much issue with Gaudreau leaving CGY? Tkachuk is definitely more of a jackass in how he left and just how he is in general, but I don't really see how that's comparable to Johnny leaving.

The issue I would take with Gaudreau if I were a Flame fan is that he led them on that he wanted to stay.

He claims he was still considering staying up until the last second, but I don't buy that for one second. He was having a baby and wanted to be closer to home and turned down a lot more money to do so.

You don't just decide to do that on a whim at the last second. They knew they were leaving Calgary, but he wanted to have his cake and eat it too. He didn't want Calgary fans thinking he was disloyal so he pretended like he hadn't made a decision and left fans and the GM in the dark thinking they still had a chance, when in reality he was never coming back.

Tkachuk is doing the same thing. He doesn't want Calgary fans to think he's disloyal so he's pretending like it wasn't about leaving Calgary, when that's clearly what it is. It obviously wasn't about money since they would have opened up the vault for him just like they did Gaudreau. That's how it's comparable.

It's not always about the money. Maybe Matthew Tkachuk just likes Florida and wants to live next to the Ocean. Calgary was Ok for him but he seems to prefer big city next to the Ocean. I can understand that. Some people love to live next to the ocean.

Yeah that's all fine. You just don't get to have your cake and eat it too. You don't get to act like you would have been fine staying in Calgary or that you "left money on the table" with your $7M bridge deal at 21 that took you straight to UFA.

Seems like Johhny and Tkachuk were huge problems when it comes to issues in Calgary's overall mentality. I could see that locker room coming together and maybe not choke so hard come playoff time this year.

I mean Matthew Tkachuk is one of the most useless playoff performers in the league, so they aren't exactly losing much there. Regular season? Sure, it'll hurt to lose him and Johnny when trying to make the playoffs but if they do make it, they're no worse off without those two.

His dad also recently had some very serious health issues that played into him leaving as well. It’s his right to leave at the end of his contract if he wants. I mean everyone’s known he’s wanted to go back east for years? If I know that than anyone legitimately connected would also know that.

Didnt Paul do that to the Avs or am I remembering it different?

Johnny Doblow had his off ice issues aswell.

I think you might be misunderstanding me. The issue isn't that he left. It's how he left and that he's trying to have his cake and eat it too, by making a decision that only benefitted him while stringing Flames fans along that he wanted to stay, and saying that he was considering staying up until the last minute, when that's not very believable at all.

Yeah he did. And it hurt his reputation among Avalanche fans that felt he misled and underappreciated them.

I mean it probably was a tough choice to make. It’s the team that drafted him and took a chance on him, so while I’m sure he preferred to go back east he had to at least consider it.

I mean he’s getting hate either way. Either never considered the team that drafted him and gave him a shot or he’s stringing them along. Idk I just don’t see why he’s getting hate for fulfilling the contract he signed.

Fulfilling the contract he signed isn't why he's getting hate. It's for how he left. Just like Tavares and Staz.

I don't consider it very believable at all that he was wrestling with staying when he probably got close to or exactly the contract demands he was asking Calgary for, and then signed in Columbus for much cheaper. If he was still considering staying it would have been purely about the money, not anything to do with Calgary or staying with the team that drafted him.
