I wouldn't say they got unlucky as much as Trevor Timmins just became really bad at his job. Galchenyuk was a pretty highly-touted prospect at the time, I'll concede that, but Kotkaniemi was a reach. Not the first time centers get overvalued in a draft, they're the quarterbacks of hockey. Timmins IIRC had some big misses (Fisher) but for the most part was able to get some good talent out of most levels of the draft. Don't know if it was a refusal to integrate analytics or Bergevin's influence or what, but he lost his way.
Whether it was a refusal to tank and stockpile picks or something else, it just reeked of indecision. I don't think Bergevin had any idea of what kind of team he truly wanted. Even the culmination of his supposed "vision," the team that fluked their way to the Final, looked like a total slapdash job.
Don't get me wrong. It was a great shift but again you can see that on occasions pretty well every week in the NHL. I see it on the Avs once in a while, against the Avs, in other games when that the Avs are not involved, etc. A few times he made quick passes after having the puck only a few seconds, a couple of times he lost the puck or almost lost it. He had a couple of times he had the puck for a considerable amount of time and did some nice spinoramas but we saw that regularly from Duchene when he was here and we see those from Mack regularly as well. Again great shift but far from the statement on the tweet. That maybe just me though. You don’t see very many shifts where one player has the puck for ~25 seconds, with 4 different touches and he ends up going through multiple defenders to setup a goal on a cross ice pass. We see it from time to time here, but not often. That’ll be a top 5 shift for the month… top 10-15 for the year. And it wasn’t his best from tonight.
The statement on the tweet is a bit much… but that’s a fantastic shift that only will be matched this season on the Avs by Makar and MacK… that amount of possession, control, movement, and ending in a goal is pretty spectacularDon't get me wrong. Again great shift but not fantastic in my book so agree to disagree. The statement on the tweet is a bit much… but that’s a fantastic shift that only will be matched this season on the Avs by Makar and MacK… that amount of possession, control, movement, and ending in a goal is pretty spectacular
Also gotta laugh at @Alienblood liking a post even slightly playing down Hughes.
He is putting on a clinic tonight… His best shift was just him dominating down low that didn’t end up in a goal.
Here was the full shift on the first goal

Exactly. We see greatness every game so maybe that didn't look so great. This video just shows how lucky we are that we get to watch Mack and Makar. I didn't find it that impressive, but that speaks more to how normal it is to see these types of plays are for Avs fans than actually discounting what Hughes did.
Seattle’s ability to hold on will be completely dictated by .905 goaltending. If they get it, easily a playoff team. If they don’t, they need to win games by scoring 4-5-6 goals.Martin Jones 3 goals on 6 shots
Tampa is lucky they werent down 6-0 going into the third. Vasi was incredible. Tampa couldnt stop turning over the puck haha. This 3rd of the Tampa/Detroit game
Hughes should have been an AvThis video just shows how lucky we are that we get to watch Mack and Makar. I didn't find it that impressive, but that speaks more to how normal it is to see these types of plays are for Avs fans than actually discounting what Hughes did.
And the Detroit was lucky Tampa didn’t score 6 in the third. Weird game, but fun!Tampa is lucky they werent down 6-0 going into the third. Vasi was incredible. Tampa couldnt stop turning over the puck haha.
Hughes should have been an Av
They aren't getting .905 tonight for sure.Seattle’s ability to hold on will be completely dictated by .905 goaltending. If they get it, easily a playoff team. If they don’t, they need to win games by scoring 4-5-6 goals.
Jones was surprisingly adequate to start the season. Big reason why they were successful after Grooby went down. They aren't getting .905 tonight for sure.
more like .500.
4 goals on 8 shots so far
It's hard to believe that Martin Jones still has a job in the NHL but here we are.
It should have ended against the Avs when they gave him in assist on Pavelski's goal. Pavelski tipped that off of Benn and in. It should have been Benns goal not Pavelski.Avs get NO help from the Eastern Conference except for Toronto, who shut out Jason Robertson and the Stars. Is that the end of the streak or did it end before that?
Ya tkatchuk and Hughes were right there they got too preoccupied with drafting a center. Doesn’t always workI wouldn't say they got unlucky as much as Trevor Timmins just became really bad at his job. All 3 of the players he torched suck? If he was an av you’d love himYa that was more the defense than Hughes
Seattle is the team that should go get Bobrovsky (down to 50%). They could get a haul and afford him. I heard last night bob is 70th in GSAA I’m not convinced it doesn’t take some serious assets to dump that contract. I do think he could bounce back tho.Seattle’s ability to hold on will be completely dictated by .905 goaltending. If they get it, easily a playoff team. Maurice: "Mark, as you can see in this video, you didn't really backcheck on this play. We want all of our guys to play hard at both ends of the rink. Can you do that for the team?"Didn’t really follow it last year but sure seems like Schiefele and Maurice were not fans of eachother for whatever reason.
Maurice was around too long and the room was lost. Pretty much happens with every coach on a long enough timeframe, especially when struggles creep in.Didn’t really follow it last year but sure seems like Schiefele and Maurice were not fans of eachother for whatever reason.
