2022-2023 Around The League

Maurice is a quick fix guy who’s good in the interim but Winnipeg kept him around well past that. Even Maurice realized that and bolted because the indecisive front office couldn’t do it.

IMO he’s a pretty mediocre coach. Florida will probably realize that too late and by then their contention window will be closed.

Unless the wheels completely fall off, New Jersey has already secured a playoff spot. If they play just .500 hockey the rest of the way, they end with 99 points. Pretty amazing to be 26 games in and already have a ticket punched... and even more impressive, Boston is there after 24 games.

Ya tkatchuk and Hughes were right there they got too preoccupied with drafting a center. Doesn’t always work

All 3 of the players he torched suck? If he was an av you’d love him
Love Byram better , he wouldn't pull that off with Bo on the ice

Oh he absolutely would. Bo is not as good defensively as the version in your head is.

Then again you're the guy who'd trade Makar for Dahlin straight-up.

Anyway, moot point. Hughes was never an option.

I'm always a bit stumped at the Bo love defensively. On one hand, he's got the perfect skill set for it, but he has some application problems at times and he gets a little too excited to play offense. When he is dialed in and focused defensively, he is a fantastic 1v1 defender and can really hone in with a shutdown mentality. When he starts trying to get aggressive offensively and push things, he can leave a lot of his responsibilities behind and makes some pretty large mistakes.

I think Bo can be an elite defender in his own end and put up elite defensive numbers. He is just pretty inconsistent with it and when his focus wonders he can be a rollercoaster. I'd hope that irons out in time.

Man Toronto could be a tough out this year. Marner is playing out of his mind. Matthews is Matthews. Tons of depth at forward- Nylandef and Tavares too. Sandin and Liljegren have stepped up. Gio can still play 25 a night somehow. They’ll certainly trade for a defensive d man at some point. Been doing all this without Rielly.

If Murray can stay healthy they might be the team to beat in the East this year.

What happened?

I guess when the Jets played the Panthros recently Scheifele shot Maurice a death-stare any time he skated by the bench, and afterward went out of his way to say how invigorated he and the rest of the team was under Bones. Just saying between that, his surliness at the end of last season, and other antics, he's just kind of a dick. Good player but just a bit of an asshole.

The Avs simply should have selected Zegras at 4. Byram is a great player, but Zegras as the 2C (and 1C tonight) would have set this team up very nicely going forward.
Kudos to you on that one you were pounding that table.

They needed a center it was clear then too- why didn’t they draft one?

Seemingly like many other teams, goaltending is the question. They took two solid chances though and not tied to either if it fails.

They've also had a real rough go of injuries... Rielly, Brodie, and Muzzin all being out is 3 of their top 4. Lilj has only played 16 games. Quite the change from the teeth gnashing that was happening after the first 10 games.

Kudos to you on that one you were pounding that table.

He's an entitled POS. Remember when he tried to murder Jake Evans for no reason in the playoffs a couple of years ago? That cost the Jets the series and then he acted like a f***ing dumbass in interviews after. Instead of apologizing to the severly concussed Evans, he used religion and church going to "prove" that he can't be an asshole.

Oh no, that's not what they need. Maybe the goaltending holds up, maybe it doesn't, but so far Dubas's massive gamble is paying off. Either way they're going in with Murray/Samsonov/Kallgren, and damn the torpedoes.

But no, they do not need another defensive D-man. They're fine on defense. In fact, seeing these young defensemen take a heavier load means that Keefe can finally give much softer minutes to Rielly once he gets back, and that's huge, because if there's one thing Rielly is very bad at, it's defending. Defensively they should be fine, and frankly IMO they're probably better without Muzzin than with him. His play has really trailed off the last couple seasons.

What the Leafs need to do is bolster their depth up front. Their firepower seems to disappear at the worst possible time, and their depth grinders just aren't nearly good enough to pick up the load.

I really think Timmins landed in the best spot he could in Toronto. He's got support from the front office and coaching staff, they play a style that works for him, and there is a solid runway as a RD ahead of him for now. He can take some time and get his sea-legs in a good spot.

He was probably a Leafs fan growing up too so that's fun for him.

Well, it's a good thing he is only 21. I have no doubt he will morph into a monster two-way defender in time IF he stays healthy.

Where I start doubting is him actually staying healthy.

I've said for a long time that I think he can be an elite 2 way #2D. I think to really be a great shutdown guy, it will eat at his offense. I expect a Provorov sort of guy longer term.

Health is a major question. He has to find a way to limit the hits he takes if he's going to stay at the smaller frame. If he bulks up, he's going to lose some of the more dynamic skating which will limit some areas.

I think the thought process was that the defence in the first half of the first round were pretty limited but the forwards were deep. And they wanted one of each for whatever reason. Not the best ideology.

I was pounding the table for Cozens and he really looks like he'd be a perfect fit as a 2C as well. Wouldn't have quite the upside of Zegras though tbf.

McDavid couldn't do anything against Bo in the playoffs and Hughes isn't in the same stratosphere.

I didn't say I'd trade Makar for Dahlin just said Buffalo wouldn't either and rightfully so. Makar has great offense no question but when he goes into those defensive lapses he's bad defensively. Dahlin is better all around and much more reliable
In his own end.

I think you will find opinions much closer after this season

Dahlin has been the best dman easily so far this year and plays high minutes with ease

McDavid had 7 points in 4 games against us last playoffs....?
