2022-2023 Around The League

I'm convinced that the pressure-cooker of the Toronto media and fanbase is getting to that team. They're all under the microscope 24/7 in that town, like nowhere else in the league. That city's obsession with hockey is ironically what's going to ensure they never win a Cup again. The players are only human, and mostly young kids at that, it's inevitable that the scrutiny is going to get under their skin. And with every loss the pressure only grows. It's a toxic environment and it's not getting better anytime soon.
Well said

It was a risk, but if he plays at all close to last season, it’s a steal. I was sure the kid was a bust before it clicked for him. He’s finally playing to his massive potential and can utterly dominate when he’s on. Maybe only 2 or 3 players can handle his size, strength, skill combo when he’s on.
Felt like he was headed down the Oleg Kvasha path for a while there.

@Pokecheque I'm not going to tag you every single time that Tage scores, don't worry

On a very related note, I've read at a couple of different places this week that ROR looks cooked. Like he completely fell off a cliff. No more legs, zero explosiveness, he's no longer the guy he once was.

Now he never was a good skater to begin with but everyone assumed that he'd age well because of his style and IQ. Were we wrong?

I didn't watch the Blues yet this year but for those who did, does ROR look this bad?

Well, there comes a point where if the skating has dipped to a certain point there's no amount of hockey IQ to make up for it. I would've bet his game would age well not only because it was based mostly off high-IQ but he also doesn't really play very physically, he always got it done with excellent positioning and stickwork. It would shock me if he were already on a decline, that would make me think he's injured in some way and they're just not saying anything.

As for Tage, by all means tag me if you want--still doesn't change my opinion that Botterill should've gotten way more than he did, even though right this instant, the best player in that trade is TT.

Ottawa is for sale? Any chance they move the team?
Been in the works for months… right now it is getting the sell side together. Real discussions are likely a month or two away. There’s a group in Toronto that is sure to make a large bid when it sets off.

As for moving… possible. Arena progress is tied to a lease window that has yet to be completed (plenty of time though as it goes through next September). If Quebec is to get a team though, this is their best chance (still very doubtful)

Yep, a team that is already in the East and already in Canada. That said Geoff Molson wouldn't let that happening anyway. Why split the NHL revenue in the province when you can have it all?

Yup and about 4-5 groups would have to fall through… including those developing Flats.

My guess is they stay in Ottawa and get the new arena in place. Shit goes sideways you could see the Toronto group make noise, maybe another Hamilton push.

I dunno...I'm not so sure that'll happen this time around. I think they might actually have something solid cooking, and Granato IMO is turning out to be a really good coach. And as much as I have slagged him the last year or so, I think Rasmus Dahlin has finally figured things out. JJ Peterka, the guy I kinda wanted the Avs to take that year, also appears to be a good find.

Not gonna bet big on them though--that goaltending situation could fall apart like a house of cards but I think they might finally be on the right track.
I watch every Sabres game. (WNY born). I haven't felt this good about Buffalo goaltending since Miller. Comrie is the real deal IMO. Anderson can still play net. He just needs to play fewer games.

Buffalo looks to finally have its act together. Certainly light years ahead of the past few seasons. Best part of this is most of these young kids are going to grow up together.

They made an improved Detroit team look stupid last night.

The best thing the Sabres ever did was let Tage Thompson be himself instead of trying to force him into being Milan Lucic 2.0.

This guy is an offensive dynamo with loads of skill. He's what Alex Tuch should be.
Credit Granato. He moved Tage to Center. That made all the difference.

I'd be quite mad if I were a Flyers fan. This team needs a top pick in this draft.
