Lol @ that defending by Scheifele on the OT winner. Absolutely not to that guy if the Avs are ever looking to acquire a centre. I'll take J.T. Miller's jackass-ness over that any day of the week.

Oh and before anyone goes ahead and crowns the Vegas Golden Knights the big bad boogeymen of the West, just remember this:

In October they've played 4 games against teams that made the playoffs last season, and their record is 2-2-0.

In 6 games against non-playoff teams they are 6-0. Kudos to them for beating up on the teams that missed playoffs last season but I'm not ready to anoint them just yet.

They're not beating teams. They're absolutely annihilating them, with a xGF% of close to 60%. That includes a game where they destroyed us, but Georgiev stole the show.

They're doing exactly what an elite team should be doing, which is running roughshod over the lesser teams in the league.

A game where they destroyed us? What the f*** game were you watching? In a game where the Avs were missing Gabriel Landeskog the Avs still controlled the Corsi battle and scoring chances battle, while Vegas had the edge in high danger scoring chances.

The Avs in no way won that game because Georgiev stole it. They deserved the win more than Vegas did.

A xGF% of 37% is being thoroughly outplayed. We kept pace in the 1st period, but it was all downhill afterwards.

To be fair, it was on the back-end of B2B.

Barron dropped 6 spots. So unsurprisingly both our 2020 and 2021 1st rd picks dropped in Pronman’s re-drafts.

Chaos in Leafs land!!

Will Trotz succeed with that goaltending, though? All his teams from Nashville to Washington to NYI have had very good goaltending.

This Leafs team... not so much.
If he gets buy in from the team
I don’t think it’ll matter a ton. A good system can definitely make a goalie look better than they are.

Winning it all last season means I can not give a **** about what the Avs did in their game yesterday and comfortably laugh at the Leafs. 🤣

I didn’t think it was possible but if they flame out this year and Matthews eventually leaves I might actually feel bad for them.

Not even getting 1 playoff series win with that core would be brutal. Be hard to ever have hope about a rebuild again.

Perhaps, but IMO there's a very big difference going from Rinne/Holtby/Varlamov/Sorokin to Samsonov/Murray. That could pose some issues.

Their defense is also questionable. They have a lot of "names" back there and Trotz and his system can probably coach them up and make them look better but I still don't trust them. If Morgan Rielly is your 1D then you don't have a 1D.

It ain't the goaltending in Toronto I'm worried about. It's the defense. I've already talked about Rielly ad nauseam so I won't revisit it here, but then there's Muzzin, who has looked bad IMO the last couple seasons and is one big hit away from being done for good. That leaves Holl, who was a great value find but is horribly overworked, and Liljegren and Sandin, who are good but injury prone IMO. As for Brodie, meh, I'm not a fan. Also, up front the depth issues, pointed out by others, are a growing concern. That's the thing about Trotz teams, they usually have that depth up front. Even Washington, as top-heavy as they look, had some really good depth, especially up the middle.

As for this weird malaise that has seemingly set in for the Leafs, not sure what in hell that is, but boy is Mitchell Marner acting weird as f***. I think he just sat there on the bench, casually walked over, asked for a stick, then went into the tunnel and rage-smashed it. Who does that?
