2022-2023 Around the League Part Deux

Without LTIR… players don’t get bigger contracts, many teams play scrubs, and the quality of the league would suffer.

The real problem is escrow. Owners and players both have a built in desire to keep it higher. Owners for the reason that it caps their costs. Players, at least those up for contracts in the near future), know that without escrow the cap doesn’t go up and they can’t sign bigger contracts. If escrow can get fixed, we get lower cap raises… but a more sustainable trajectory of cap and contracts.

The pain of changing escrow is huge though… we’d be at a ~72-74m cap if it held as prior with basically zero chance it gets above ~80m next season. That would eventually payoff though in 2026ish. Where players could have 5% escrow and still have a 87-90m cap.

I was told players don't need ear protection on their helmets when a kid died and now Carlson.
I have zero idea why players don’t wear them today. I didn’t… but I was stupid. I think they should be required under 18 now, and then many players will be used to them by the time they get to the NHL where most will wear them.

Don’t tell my girlfriend. Wait…
I can’t tell if this is more or less blue balls.

That moron Sean Avery mocked Clayton Keller for wearing ear protection, tell you what if I'm being told I have to block shots you can be goddamned sure I'm wearing ear guards.
It’s the old tough guy thing… visors have been the same for years.
