Where is Minnesota finding money to give out big contracts? They have 14.7M in dead cap next season.
They have 3.8 today with over 12m in dead this year. Their secret is a very good amount of depth value contracts and good drafting/value signing for depth. They got guys in impact roles making pennies for what they bring. Even a guy like JEE is 2+m underpaid.

Didn't see him last night, but McTavish looks like a very good long-term #2C. He plays a much different style than Newhook in how he lives in dirty areas with a physical game and is a much bigger player (a real thic boi). He doesn't have a ton of flash to his game (outside when he gets a chance to wind up his shot), but he's pretty effective. I would take him 100/100 times over Newhook.
If you get a chance to watch the replay of last nights game he just looked like he moves like Peter Worrell out there. I havent watched many Anaheim games this season but the ones I have watched he just never looked good and last night oof. I was expecting more from the last time I saw him at the WJC to now I guess.

I’d still buy low on ROR for a rental only situation. He can play 3C minimum I’m sure. Probably look pretty good with Nuke.
He can still win a draw im sure of it.

I’ve watched quite a few Anaheim game and while he’s not a great skater, he moves just fine for his size. Certainly not Worrell level. Probably just an off game.

^ Discussion above, if Boone Jenner can survive in this league, I think McTavish can as well. I am a big fan of him, reminds me a lot of JT Miller in a good way.

I haven't watched a lot of Ducks games this year for obvious reasons, but to me, they've looked way worse than Avs 40 point season. They simply had two weeks from the entire season back in late November where they were actually respectable (when Dostal was playing for them). I am not going to judge a lot of players on that team, we've seen how bad Rakell was for them and how he has turned to gold for the Pens. I think when you're in a losing culture for so long, you miss some of that competitive drive that you're seeing with Fowler, Gibson, Comtois, Klingberg, and Silfverberg. Not saying I would take any of them though. I really don't want Bedard to go there (or Chicago for that matter), I don't think they deserve him like the Coyotes or Blue Jackets do.

He was never the same after this...

Ghetto was fun, I have one of his away on ice sets from the first year they went back to the good jerseys. He has his cuffs sewn tighter. Actually makes the thing very efficient for eating nachos and not getting cheese all over the cuffs, or when you push up the sleeves they stay.

Smart player

Seen Mason McTavish play a handful of times but ugh he looks like not good. He actually looks worse than Newhook,

If we could get MacTavish for Newhook I'd do that in a second. I'd honestly add a bunch. I don't think the Ducks even pick up the phone tho. Every Ducks game I've seen he's actually looked pretty solid. I hadn't looked at his numbers until now but he's only 5 points behind Zegras and is 2 years younger. From the games I've seen his all-around game is much better as well. Obviously doesn't have the offensive upside/potential of Zegras but he could still be a really good 2C.

Last night was not an NHL game lol the Oilers obliterated the Ducks and they basically stopped trying half way through the game
They look worse than the 16-17 Avs. I think it was the second Kostin goal where it was obvious nobody on the ice for the Ducks cared. I havent seen an easier goal scored lol. I wonder how much those players like playing for Eakins.

His skating and effort level is what through me off. I mean I expect the old vets to pack it in but not the young guys. I was excited to see him play and I came away very unimpressed. I would watch more Ducks games but I dont hate myself that much.

In the Eakins’ system, when it rains it pours. It taxes players way too much and requires an absurd level of effort to pull off in the NHL so that breakdowns aren’t everywhere. So when players just dial back intensity as they are getting rolled, it compounds.

Why does "the swarm" work so well in the AHL and fail so miserably in the NHL?

So is Ersson legit because GODDAMMIT why do some teams shit out goalies like it's no biggie and others (Avs) struggle to even make a capable backup?

I don’t know if Ersson is legit or not… lean towards no personally, but he has some qualities I like. Of any position, goaltending is the most technical and teachable. Your elite guys still need things you can’t teach (absurd athleticism and read of the game), but if a goalie is athletic and of good size, there is a better chance they can be technically rounded out. The right coaches and systems here can really help. Philly has always been good at finding and bringing up goalies… they’ve just never been good at not running them into the ground.

I don't think he'll be a legit starter, no. I'm hopeful he will be an NHL goalie, but not a franchise goalie. At this point he should not be struggling to surpass Jonas Johansson on the AHL depth chart.
He should be… his post to post movement is abysmal. Zero chance that succeeds long term in the NHL. Just look at JoJo (and it is worse than his)
I think it's still a bit early, although I'm not holding my breath. I'd have liked to see him replace Francouz at the end of his contract. Getting a couple of years of 800k backup goaltender would be nice.

It is rare that suddenly that athletic ability just shows up. If it isn’t there now, very doubtful it ever will be.

Did you write Annunen off already?
Yes

The consensus best goalie was right there for the taking (Dostal) and somehow our genius scouts that have never drafted an NHL starting goalie galaxy brained into taking a chubby kid that likely won’t even be a backup.
