That's what he absolutely should have done. Should be noted that Provorov is one of the least Russian, Russians in the US. He's lived most of his years formative years in the US. He obviously comes from Russian heritage and a Russian family, but he's lived in the US and Canada as long as he has lived in Russia.
"I learned it from watching you!"

But yeah he could have signaled ahead to the team so they could talk it over and made sure he really didn't want to just go with the flow, of nothing else for the charity aspect.

No one is forgetting about them. There have been articles today talking about them and bringing to light the work JVR and Laughton are doing.

Letting a player get in the way of an initiative and shirk responsibility is far worse. I'd say yours is a bad take.
Not 1/10th of Provorov's coverage.

Provorov doesn't get in the way of anything if he's "sick". Now he is very much in the way though, and nothing positive comes out of this.

Players should be wearing those jerseys because they believe it's the right thing to do, not because they are forced to do it.

FTR to be clear I think he's a selfish moron for not wearing it but that was the Flyers' job to not let this get in the way of the positive stuff and they obviously failed.

There is pretty much zero coverage if Provorov doesn't do anything. There might be an article about the Pride night that only Philly fans read and people move on... the ones the Avs have had over the years have had zero coverage beyond the night. Maybe the year Landy was outwardly in the You Can Play program there was more. Instead we learned today what that team is doing, how the whole team and org was behind it, and that a couple players are heading up thing. Yeah Provorov is getting the headlines (and scorn), but the stories around this would not be being told if it wasn't for what happened.

To say there is nothing positive out of this is absolute nonsense. We have already learned about things about it, and it becomes a platform that the Flyers and players can speak about.

Agree players should be wearing them as the right thing to do, but at very least, you support your teammates and their initiatives. You may not always get along with your teammates, but they are family and you support them. Provorov flat out didn't.

Personally, it is pretty refreshing to see an organization that is willing to let a player sink themselves and not protect them at all costs. Far too many times, teams just keep everything quiet and don't let the dirty laundry out until it is way too late. Here they let Provorov hang himself.

So weird. On TV basically confirming he has had talks while adding in the "but we've talked for years" line. All while Bruce is still coaching the team.

Provorov is saying one thing (he wants people to live their lives how they chose), doing another (sitting out because of his "church" that has ties to the Kremlin). Russia is probably the last place you want to be openly anything LGBTQ.

Honestly I don't really care if you don't support it, that's fine. But you wear a jersey for 15 minutes and be a team player. I hope he ends up back in the Soviet Union and gets stuck there. Freedom of expression is great, by all means there are plenty of crazy evangelicals that do worst. But Russians are walking a fine line right now in the world. With the spotlight on them, it'd be smart to stand up for human rights instead of ostracizing a community because of your "church".

Oh great, we're back to cold war tier anti-Russian sentiment. Not to mention denigrating 1000 year old churches because of contemporary politics, no different than misguided anti-Islam sentiment in the 00s and 10s.

The NHL statement on this was fine. Teams can celebrate whatever they like and players should be allowed to choose to participate or not participate.

I got the game in the background, but I swear I heard Yandle say that Meier would be a fantastic get for a playoff team's 3rd or 4th line. Yeah...

That's what he absolutely should have done.
15 minutes isn't a problem, I agree, but the principle behind it most definitely is. It's pretty much silencing other viewpoints and telling people that they should be forced to believe a particular viewpoint even if that goes against religious faith or something else. It goes back to LeBrun's original clueless tweet, you can't force what another person see's as a sin in his/her eye. And if you do want to (use force), then that's in the components of wanting control over people and is pretty much evil as eff.

Just gonna say if you’re unable to watch On the Fly on NHL Network tonight you’re missing out.

Erik Karlsson another 3 pt night

He has 61 points in 46 games
That was a crazy good shot for the GWG. Up there with Barrie's 1 in 1000 one when he was still with us.

I also think he had chewing tobacco in his hands during the end-of-the-game interview. I keep forgetting that is a big feature in the hockey culture. I had multiple teammates do it in juniors and I am pretty sure that Bednar does it as well.

"Snus" is overall a big thing in Sweden. Stuff it under your lip and go. It is not allowed to sell it in Finland so people take boat trips to Sweden and buy shitloads of that stuff to bring home lol.

Yeah. Awesome snipe by EK65.

All those points but he's still a minus player. That just shows how bad he really is defensively. If he could play any defense, he would be on a plus side even if the Sharks are a bad team. I know I keep harping on this topic, but even though Karlsson is an elite offensive talent, I wouldn't trust him to be my team's #1 d-man in the playoffs.

The Soviet Union hasn't been around for over 30 years.

Why in the hell mods deleted all my comments about Provorov situation and left out all the rest???

Anyway whoever did should be ashamed of himself.

EK in his prime in this era might have been a 130 point guy. What a story this is though after years of scorn, he having a career year in his 30s.
This is not peak EK though. Career best in points if he stays healthy but certainly not the best season. He used to control all zones and be decent defensively, now he cheats a lot to get points.

I'm not saying it is his best season ever, he was clearly better earlier in his career (hence point about earlier in his career)... but we have a guy who may score 110 points as a defensemen. Something only accomplished by Coffey and Orr.

It's wild that he might break a 100, get the Norris and many would still pick quite a few other Dmen to a must win game.

Reminds me somewhat of the peak Mike Green days.

+/- is the worst way to judge a player…

Dude single handedly carried the Sens one year in the playoffs.

My God this would be a clueless take in 2005, it’s twenty-twenty-THREE FFS get with the goddamned program. Plus minus is USELESS. If you watched any highlights of that game you’d see that Reimer let in at least one muffin despite being the winning goaltender.

Oh and let’s not forget the fact that the Sharks are an inherently bad team that’s essentially tanking the season. You don’t think that has a bearing on plus/minus?
