2022-2023 Around the League Part Deux

Makar is great at some aspects of defense. He doesn't play too risky and prevents zone entries and retrieves pucks like very few in the league can.

But his defensive ability once the opposing team has entered the zone is mediocre. His PK performance isn't great. And a lot of goals are scored in front of the net while Makar hasn't tied up his man.

EK plays on bad teams so plays a much riskier game.

Those are real? f***ung hell those are God awful. What's with this shitty trend of everything being bright pastel like colors? Is everyone just a big ass baby now? I yern for the days of yore when jerseys had deep dark colors. Not this bullshit teal and pink eyesore.
Vaporwave is a microgenre of electronic music, visual art style, and Internet meme that emerged in the early 2010s.

There's your answer.

One GM flat-out admits to tanking:

The GMs have heard of Bedard. So have their teams' owners. And a few of them have designed their rosters to maximize their chances of drafting Bedard, to put it kindly.

"Management and ownership are the ones who care about that. The coaches and the players don't. They want to win every single night," one GM said with a chuckle. "They don't care about a draft pick. They really don't. So they actually make it really hard on the management. But I love it. That's the beauty of our sport."

I kind of wish we had the old draft system for this year lol. My guess would be Chicago, all the moves they have made by trading away legit NHL players for no roster in return screams them. You can say that Arizona fits that bill too, but they actually look competent compared to the Hawks. Habs aren't a bad team by any stretch as I don't think Hughes purposely tanked, but he would probably welcome a top 3-5 pick. CBJ wasn't supposed to be down here, so even with all the injuries, this has been the recipe of a disastrous season. The Ducks, like with the Sens and Blue Jackets probably wanted a better season where they would be towards the playoff bubble instead of in the doldrums, all three have had brutal seasons by their own standard.

The Sharks have too much talent to be this bad, so I don't think they were in the Bedard sweepstakes at the same rate Chicago is, but that is definitely one flawed roster when the games are actually getting played. Flyers are the anti-Blackhawks, they are one of the few teams who really have nothing special on their team, but Torts is playing them out of getting a franchise or generational player lol. I blame Chuck for that more than anyone else. Philly is the Eastcoast version of Canucks, just organisations who try as hard as possible to prevent rebuilds or retools.

That's 100% Kent Hughes who said the same thing (using other words) in his presser yesterday.

Those are fine for an ASG jersey. I would've liked to have seen them be even more stylized but those are perfectly good.

I mean it's not like they've ever truly "nailed it" with any single ASG jersey. Even the Campbell/Wales ones that guys like Gretzky and Howe wore back in the day are great to look at for nostalgia's sake but bah Gawd they're objectively ugly.

What are ya talking about, you lived through the 90s.

Dear God man, do ya have eyes? Nearly ALL sports uniforms have "deep, dark colors." Especially now. Things got bright and colorful in the 90s but we're nearly 30 years removed from that era. And even then there was plenty of dark colors going around. What other teams are going bright pastel that I don't know about, because most teams I see are adopting navy goddamned blue or black by default. I'm still mad at the Nuggets and Broncos for doing that when their previous kits were phenomenal.

It's just a throwback uniform that will be worn literally one time. I have no issue with them trying something garish, and I promise you that's not the most garish ASG jersey the NHL has come up with, not even close.

The Broncos going for the darker blue and using it as the primary color was weird. I actually really like those jerseys, but the Broncos really should have orange as the primary 90% of the time.

The Kraken have a bright color. Even if they mainly wear black as the primary. And the sharks have always sucked. I know someone said it's 2010s vaporwave style, but to me it looks more like a 70s jerseys.

I’m fine with the jerseys for an all star game. Having dumb vibrant colors is kinda neat. I’d hate them for a real set though.

Oh I love the Sharks current look. Their "update" that incorporated orange for no good reason was truly horrendous, thankfully they got rid of that. And the teal actually is a nod to a 70s team--the Golden Seals. That's what their newest RR is honoring, and those look great.

And the Kraks have navy as their primary, I don't think it counts that they have that aqua and salmon as accent colors.

Drab colors aren't always boring, but most of the time they are. I'm all for teams taking a chance and using a brighter color scheme.

Apparently these have weird backs that don't follow either the ASG pattern or the Dallas pattern.

Yeah, this is literally the same design the NHL used for the ASG in the mid-nineties, except they're using a more garish color set.

I have fond memories of Ray Bourque being honored while wearing one of those.

The West kinda reminds me of the Miami Heat Vice jerseys, which are one of my favourites in any sport.

Those were f***ing amazing and it's criminal the Heat don't go to those full time.

Yeah, it's super cool, but does it follow the 90s ASG jersey shape at the back? Maybe it does the more I look at it. Looked to me like it might be lower and/or straighter.
