I grant you that Landy might be closer, especially since we don't know what he will look like post injury. But he's the team captain for crying out loud.
He‘s still an important part of the team. Those aren’t mutually exclusive. But it’d be a bit naive to not be at least a little worried about Landy and his future right now.

Whatever happens with him I hope they get answers this summer.

If he LTIRetire then so be it, use his 7M cap hit on a 2C.

If he's not then he needs to play (and hopefully at a high enough level to justify a decent chunk of that cap hit).

If I was guaranteed millions of dollars to play hockey I would simply prioritise winning and living somewhere I and my family enjoyed over a few more millions.

I do miss Kadri. But not with that contract. Some people think we should've basically pushed all in this season because it's our best window, and sacrifice the future. I guess I have been on the fence with that as well. But thinking about it now, I'd rather keep the flexibility to field a contending team for the next 10 years. In the end, the playoffs are so random. Look at the Boston core. They have won just 1 cup, but they have been in the finals 2 more times after that cup with the same core. And probably can do it again this year.
This is how GMs and strategic personnel look at it. They don't push chips all in when you have guys that have plenty of years in their prime or near primes left. Heck MacK could be at least be a good player in the last year of his deal, people already giving up on it. Makar clearly will be good if he stays healthy by the last year. Landy's deal might be a problem later on but its a knee injury he has that probably isn't going to change his aging curve.

These guys all can be good parts of a contending team 5 years or more from now. The key will be to add guys who make a step up and help them out, hence its good they are keeping picks around to at least have a chance at that. Maybe the picks work out, maybe the picks are used on future trades for non-rentals. Management is smoothing out the long term curve with slightly lower chances to win a Cup this year but greatly increasing the chances down the road. I know some fans get greedy and want 100% chances but no such thing exists in the NHL. Look at the Bruins, that's as sure a shot as there is to win a Cup and what's their real chance? 33% maybe?

While CMac and Sakic have by no means been perfect in their moves, no one is. They have been damn good and I really like the TDL they had. Maybe a slight overpay on Eller, but what's a round too high on that pick really worth? Kept the first, kept the young asset in Behrens, didn't panic in the offseason going after a goalie they wanted instead of overpaying for one they didn't trust, didn't fall for the Kadri or Bura deals...I mean they really have done well above average in their moves in my view.

What’s Dallas at?

I see Mark Stone is healthy just in time for the POs. Dear CMac. You could’ve done so much more….
"Healthy". We'll see if he's at his best in the playoffs, back injuries are brutal and can really hamper you, especially chronic ones. I'm betting he isn't 100% but is coming back anyway.

Funny thing is t's always the people that will never be in that position that state they wouldn't take more money. It seems that when it's actually your money it might not be so easy to turn down a few million.

Personally I would always as an NHLer want to take just slightly less than market value. Being hated by fans for being overpaid for 8 years seems like it would really ruin the fun of the job while they love you when you’re perceived to be playing at a slight discount. And when you’re loved you can maximize other income opportunities

Career earnings of ~35 million before he signed that contract. If you assume half of that is gone in taxes then he's quite comfortably already earned far more than the people who make this argument could dream of. If it's a choice between 7x7 on a new team or, say, 5x8 on a team where I'm successful then yes the money is completely irrelevant.

If the Flames won just 5 of their 17 OT/SO losses they'd have control of their own destiny.

It's insane how many losses in extra time they have this season.
Another way of looking at it is, if the NHL didn't give out participation points for losses in OT, the Flames would be nowhere near the playoffs.

Jets regulation win will be nice. First of all we don’t have to worry about the Wild passing the Avs because I think Avs have the tie breaker on them, someone can correct me if I’m wrong, and secondly Preds and Jets won’t have anything to play for as the Avs last 2 opponents
