What an awful future outlook for the Flames man.

Weegar making $6.25M until he's 38, about to enter year 1/8 on his contract. Huberdeau making $10.5M until he's 38, entering year 1/8 on his deal. Kadri making $7M until he's 39, entering year 2/7 on his deal. Markstrom making $6M until he's 37, entering year 4/6 on his deal.

Almost $30M tied up in 4 guys that are all either already on the wrong side of 30, or will be within the next year or so... And all are signed into there late 30s still.

That's a team that will be absolute dirt for years, years. Could be a decade long rebuild.
Flames did a speedrun through the contender phase to become the Sharks 2.0.

I remember catching a ridiculous amount of flak last summer for suggesting Florida won that trade by a significant margin.

Tkachuk was extremely underrated a year ago. A Top 10 forward in the league for sure.
When someone is a gigantic, unlikable piece of shit, It's hard to see their good points.

What a way to go out. 😂

Flames are weird. I know there’s that saying that “you are what your record says you are” but with them I feel they’re so much better than their record and deserved better.

Then again, Nick Ritchie was just in the shootout so maybe this is what they deserve. Probably need a new coach just because of all the nonsense all season long.

From afar, it seems like Suter has lost the room. Part of its Markstrom. Huberdeau has had a bad season. Kadri has had some bad effort plays recently. And now you have Ritchie in a SO over Lindholm. Something doesn’t seem right.

Ritchie in the SO last night is the best example of galaxy braining something I've seen recently. Holy cow. The reasoning was even crazier haha. "he scored on him before" hahaha.

Even Kadri's attempt was terrible. Put the puck on his backhand and just coasted away from the net losing any real chance he had.

I don't blame Kadri one bit for chasing as much money as possible, but this is what happens when you chase as much money as possible.

He had to go somewhere, it wasnt going to be here.

I feel attacked.

His confidence is shot. It doesnt look like hes enjoying hockey very much the last 2-3 months actually. I know money talks but he had a great situation here in Denver where he was loved. He wont say it publicly but deep down he wishes he was still an Av.

I don't miss Kadri.

He was here in the perfect time in his career, the stars aligned perfectly, and helped us to a cup.

But with his new contract and obvious decline for years to come, nope. Thank you and bye!

I do miss Kadri. But not with that contract. Some people think we should've basically pushed all in this season because it's our best window, and sacrifice the future. I guess I have been on the fence with that as well. But thinking about it now, I'd rather keep the flexibility to field a contending team for the next 10 years. In the end, the playoffs are so random. Look at the Boston core. They have won just 1 cup, but they have been in the finals 2 more times after that cup with the same core. And probably can do it again this year.

Basically exactly what I was saying.

His time here, especially the cup season, was magical and I cherish that memory. But one can't get too sentimental going forward in sports/business. Moving on.

Except those players are 2-5 years younger. They are also much more important pieces (Nuke you can debate I guess).
Obviously Mack is far more important but regardless of age Landy’s contract is now looking incredibly problematic. I see the Nuke/Kadri contracts as a wash as Kadri filled a bigger organizational hole.

Can't predict injury.

Let's just all hope Landy comes back these playoffs and reminds us of his viking hammer of the gods force that he can summon!

MacFarland clearly tried to wait Kadri out and lost. If Calgary hadn't stepped up, I can't help but wonder.
I don't think , doubt there was even an offer for Kadri to stay.

There is nothing stating that and he chose Nuke and Lehky with no cap space for Kadri.

I believe it was a foregone conclusion from the time we traded for him

The Islanders were the ones in in Kadri not the Avs.

I grant you that Landy might be closer, especially since we don't know what he will look like post injury. But he's the team captain for crying out loud.
