EJ gets so overrated here even in his prime he was a very low end first pairing D. If he was even a little smarter, stronger/more physical, offensively dominant, or defensively dominant hed be Hedman and we’d have never gotten him

Booooo this man!

EJ in his prime was very very good. He just played on absolute shit teams for all of his prime unfortunately.

Friedman said he may not be willing to sign long term. He’s 2 years away from UFA and if he refuses to sign long term expect his name to be out there.

Wonder if that's because PLD wants to test UFA or because he doesn't want to stay in Winnipeg long term.

He'd be a great fit at 2C for this Avs team. Exactly what they need in a big gritty two way guy.

Given he's still young and played five seasons already, maybe they can get him to sign 3 year deal buying one UFA year and keep the AAV to around $6-7M? He'd still be a UFA at 26 and could make a lot of money in his career, along with the chance to win one or more Cups. That should be really enticing on all levels for him IMO.

If PLD is on the market I don't see a team outbidding Montreal, unless Winnipeg is looking for another 1 for 1 swap.

How is he overrated when you called him a low end first pair D? That's a very good defenseman and nobody thought he was a high end first pair D.

He's overrated because he's not Hedman? That's not the bar. Hedman's been arguably the best defenseman in the game for years.

Would y'all be interested in Zadorov coming back? Wouldn't be any more expensive than Manson and there is an obvious need in the lineup for a defender taller than 5' 11.25''
No unfortunately he will be older than 26 and therefore no more room to improve so it is a pass for me.

Would Ryan poehling be a good reclamation trade? Or who could be the next Nuke?

Nooooooooooooooooooooo, on top of being injury prone, dude's kind of a nutbag and just not that great a hockey player. No way is he the "next Nuke."

If we’re going for the next Nuke so to speak, I think Kravtsov would be the closest to what fits the bill. I’m not saying that he’s the same player as Nuke, but he’s a player who could be targeted that could turn into a star with us. I’d give up a decent return for him too. If we were to give him a real shot we could run lines of:

Landy-MacK-Lehkonen
Nuke-Rantanen-Krav
Newhook-Meyer-JTC
Ranta-Maltsev-LOC

What’s Kravstov like as a player? I don’t watch the Rangers. Elite Prospects says he could backcheck quicker. Lehkonen and Nuchushkin are relentless on forechecking and backchecking. I’d love to get another bull in a China shop type player with some scoring skill too. What would Kravtsov cap hit be as a 2RW?

The thing with reclamation projects is you don’t get to be particular about their skill set. It’s just whomever is capable of getting better be it a crasher, sniper or even face off specialist.

Helluva reclamation project in Nichushkin. Because I’m seriously not convinced that Nichushkin is done yet with his development. It’s amazing. He’s literally the Avs 4th most valuable F. His hands are softer in handling the puck, he’s become a better shooter, crashing the net, relentless checker and drives play on every line, versatile enough to play on first through third lines. One could make an argument that what he brings to the Avs is every bit as valuable as MacKinnon or Rantanen. It’s just a different but indispensable aspect of the game. If he has a very good POs, I could definitely see him wanting over $6M.

Lias Andersson would be my target if he's available, don't really want anything to do with Kravstov. Andersson shouldn't cost too much and think he'd fit in quite well in the bottom 6 here, plus it doesn't seem like LA is that keen on him anymore.
