Vegas will come to regret that deal in due time. Pietrangelo was still largely good, but he's already showing signs that his best years are behind him.

That said, St. Louis may have been okay with the whole Pietrangelo/Krug swap, but what really killed them defensively was acquiring Marco Scandella, whose game promptly fell off a cliff not long after he arrived.

They went out and got Faulk + Krug, realized they didn't have anyone that could play an ounce of defense besides Parayko, and ended up with Scandella.

That Blues team is now a regular season team. Sure they'll make the playoffs the next few years, but come playoff time 99% of teams would rather pay an extra $2 mil for Pietrangelo over Krug.

Every team that gives an 8 year contract to a 28+ year old will regret it. Avs will experience this with Landy, too.

He was great for 50 games but the fact is he's going to miss 30 games of season 1 of 8 due to injury and surgery. That's not ideal, to say the least.

I've had the feeling this was always part of the plan this season. If they got themselves high up in the standings, get it done before the playoffs so he could play better.

Sounds like it was just a scope to clean up some of the cartilage from pre-existing issues causing him pain, not a new injury to his knee, so that should hopefully improve the chances he plays better instead of worse.

The concern about Landy aging though is with his hip issues.

This is how I see the off season going.

Kadri and Bura walk.

Bura's money goes to Nuke and Kadri's money in part goes to Lehky.

We roll most of the season with a rotating 2 C. Then come trade deadline we make a move for one.

Re-sign both Sturm and NAK at around 1.2 million.

UFA depth winger for cheap. 750kish range.

Helm and Cogs walk unless one is willing to re-sign at the veterans minimum.

I'm not really fond of it, but I bet they overpay and re-sign JJ.

Murray and Manson will walk.

And we'll sign a UFA Dman at around 3.5 million.

I bet they will re-sign DK because of the assets we paid to aquire him.

I would also like to move Compher for some cap space, but I doubt we will....

Sounds to me like you're really underrating the Blues more then anything. And overrating Pietrangelo.

Again, they're 7th place in the entire league and they're playing as good of hockey as anybody else in the league right now heading into the playoffs. They're really deep on both offense and defense and have one of the hottest goalies in the league. At this point they've got just as good of a shot at making it all the way as Calgary/Minnesota in the West. Only team that definitively ahead of them is us but as we all know none of that matters once the playoffs start either.

Yeah St. Louis' defense isn't good at all. It's been masked by Husso playing unreal this year and having one of the deepest forward core's in the league. But from a defensive standpoint I think they're very vulnerable and they give up a lot of lot shots against and a lot of scoring chances.

2 'low key acquisitions' would be Liam Foudy and Dmitri Samorukov. Foudy would fit great in our system and obv. there's the family connections. Samorukov could be seen as a JJ replacement, #7 defensive D who is young and has upside, in the Hjarmalsson mold.

I'm not sure how available he'd this offseason, but Necas has had a pretty meh season following up a year in which looked like his breakout. He'd be a near perfect fit for us style wise and would be a good Bura replacement.

He would be a nice pickup but I'm not sure the Canes are gonna play ball there.

Could be a potential fit for a Girard trade as well tbh.

Though that would such to watch Girard become an even better Dman then he already is with the Canes and playing with Slavin or Pesce.

Yeah idk if I'd do Girard for Necas. If he had shown more ability at C than sure. But man if there's a way to get him here that should be high on Sakic's to do list.

I'd do Girard for Necas. Girard has 1 point in the last 3 months and is about to get bullied for the next 4-6 weeks, while Necas is being inexplicably buried on the Carolina 4th line, I'm all over that instantly

Definitely not 1 for 1, but something like Necas + Carolina's 2023 1st in the summer or something. Between Necas and Newhook I'd hope/think one of them works out as the 2C here in the next year or two.

In the short term we could use that Canes 1st as a piece to go get JT Miller or someone like that for the 2C spot for next year.

I wouldn’t say inexplicably. But he certainly isn’t a natural fit for their system.

The problem with trading G is that his value has never been lower. Guy isn't even playing up to what we all thought would be a sweetheart contract

Yep, Vegas broke him. He’s been a complete shell of his former self since that series. You see flashes here and there, but put a strong forecheck on Sammy G and he collapses. Can’t handle the physicality whatsoever.

Lmfao take off the homers Girard ain’t bringing back Necas and a 1st. He won’t even bring back Necas. We are adding in that proposal. G sucks
