Nico Sturm doesn’t set us apart from any of the other contenders. Calgarys bottom 6 would have their way with us too. Playoffs is a different beast.
I enjoy when people tell me the playoffs are different… as though I haven’t watched hockey my entire life nor that I continue to play to this day.

Sakic is clearly not done at this deadline. He hasn't worked to accrue $3m in deadline capspace to just not use it. He's doing the right thing and letting the forward market settle down, because prices will be better in the last 24 hours than before that as sellers start to take deals on the table instead of holding out for their higher asking prices.

I wonder if there was interest in Domi because that is something that might involve Compher going the other way.

If I were to guess I think Sakic's plan for the next 24 hours is something like this:

1. Add a 3rd line forward. Targets being something like: Copp > Domi > Nick Paul > Motte > Namestnikov.

2. Once #1 is done, focus on adding a cheap 3rd goalie.

3. If there's capspace left over after #1 and #2, look for moves to squeeze out value around the edge of the roster. For example something like NAK+ for Clutterbuck or Parise.

4. After the NHL roster is set, explore prospect swap deals involving Bowers or Kaut.

You can equate a "replacement level" player as an AHL lifer, AKA not an NHL'er. Dime a dozen players
Uh huh… so can you tell me who this game breaking 4th line player is.

Also, since his first pro season Sturm has spent the entire time in the NHL. So, not really a career AHLer

With existing cap and Landy and Girard on LTIR can't they add Kane with no retention at this point?

Now's not the time to be dumping legit NHL level players for cap space.
JTC will be in the package if this is the case, otherwise there is no chance we will be able to absorb a 10.5M cap hit for Kane next season

Donskoi is big?
