Sakic does that same press conference every year and he actually acquired someone (Brassard in 2019) as the media was seated waiting for that press conference to start (I remember BSN live streaming a trade reaction while seated).
They usually announce that presser when they're done making moves, but obviously that doesn't mean Sakic is 100% done. I'm just putting that announcement and Bednar's comments together, it does seem like they could be done. I'd say right now it's 50/50 done or making more moves, really hard to tell

Sturm is big with a net front presence. That 3rd line looked more dangerous than it did all season.

That looks like a really great deal for Toronto, well done Dubas. Also works out great for us too as it's yet another good player going to the east, especially since it's a LHD that the Blues miss out on.

Dubas not giving up a 1st also raises the value of our 2023 1st in this market as well. The insiders saying that the Avs are leading the race for Copp must mean that the 1st is on the table since we don't have a 2nd round pick, and you'd think we'd win that race with that pick on the table.

I like what Sakic has done so far (Manson & Sturm), but I agree that it'll be a huge mistake if he doesn't add at least 1 more forward.

Only Landeskog is injured, yet Aube-Kubel (2p in 23GP) and MacDermid are both locked and loaded on the 4th line every night. That's not going to get it done in the playoffs.

If Joe can get Copp I think that would be enough

3rd line - Newhook-Copp-JTC
4th line - Helm-Sturm-LOC
extras NAK, MacDermid

Donskoi coming back would be nice, especially because it would be a "buy low" given his current season. The Avs could get him for a pick and Seattle's take would be "it just wasn't a good fit" and they gain cap space.

Donskoi coming back would be awful. He's the streakiest player in the league, capable of PPG pace for 30 games, and then could literally get 0 goals for the next 30. When the scoring dried up in the playoffs he brought nothing else. No PK'ing. No hits. No intangibles. Just $3.9m of dead space while getting out-chanced and not showing up in the playoffs much when it mattered most against Dallas or Vegas.

I prefer Dong. Clutterbuck is a pure 4th liner, Donskoi is a 3rd liner.

Newhook-Sturm-Donskoi
LOC-JTC-NAK

I'd take Clutterbuck over Donskoi any day of the week, AINEC. Clutterbuck is built for the playoffs and can grind teams down and is also good on the PK.

We've seen Donskoi in the playoffs. No thanks.

Clutterbuck > Donskoi.

Agree 100%.

Sakic is clearly not done at this deadline. He hasn't worked to accrue $3m in deadline capspace to just not use it. He's doing the right thing and letting the forward market settle down, because prices will be better in the last 24 hours than before that as sellers start to take deals on the table instead of holding out for their higher asking prices.

Manson is younger and fits the RD role that was needed. And decent chance he is re-signed.

Manson is a way better get. The Avs needed a Manson way more than a Gio. He's Zadorov that knows how to play defense. But he didn't exactly come cheap.

Hopefully Manson and Sturm don't get neutered by the coaching staff. We've seen time and time again how players dial down the physical play the longer they stick on this roster.

Except for Kadri.

I really want Clutterbuck on the Avs.

Same here. I would love adding Clutterbuck to bring a completely different element to the bottom 6 and be the team grinding the other team down in the latter rounds instead of the other way around.

Clutterbuck-Sturm-O'Connor would be a great 4th line. Or you could swap Compher and him to get some extra physicality on the 3rd line.

Landeskog -- Mackinnon -- Rantanen
Nichuskin ------ Kadri ----- Burakovsky
Newhook ------ Copp ------ Compher
Clutterbuck --- Sturm ------ O'Connor
Helm/MacDermid/NAK

Getting Blackwell in the deal is what puts it over the top for me. He's an analytical darling; very good defensive bottom-6 guy.

I think Blackwell is more offensive-leaning than defensive, at least according to his analytics. Either way that's a great addition for Toronto given the caphit and style of player.

I prefer Manson over Giordano. Some people don't care but I'm a big fan of lefty righty pairings. With Manson, now the Avs have lefty righty on all pairs.

Plus, Giordano is 1000 years old. Probably has another good year left in him max

JTC for Clutterbuck is my dream transaction tomorrow. Frees up cap space for next season and gives the Avs an actual physical player for the 4th line.

Then trade a 2022 3rd for Kessel (50%).

Bura-Mack-Rants
Landy-Kadri-Kessel
Nuke-Newhook-LOC
Helm-Strum-Cluttetbuck (basically the most non Avs line ever). Physical, big, no scoring skill. An actual grind on the opponent 4th line.
13th forward - NAK.
