I mean sure, make me have to dig up his analytics instead of just taking my word for it

I was thinking of the chart below (for the 20/21 season) when I said that he's more offensively-leaning. He scores quite a bit for a 4th liner as his most valuable attribute is his puck retrieval on the forecheck.

That said his defensive metrics seem to be better than his offensive metrics this season, as per the last two graphics below. That probably has a lot to do with playing on a Seattle team that's extremely defensive though.

JTC for Clutterbuck is my dream transaction tomorrow. Frees up cap space for next season and gives the Avs an actual physical player for the 4th line.

Then trade a 2022 3rd for Kessel.

Bura-Mack-Rants
Landy-Kadri-Kessel
Nuke-Newhook-LOC
Helm-Strum-Cluttetbuck.
I was also on the Kessel train, until I was reminded that he has a newborn baby at home. I doubt he's too keen on cup chasing this season.

By the way, if anyone likes looking up player metrics this is the site I got the last Blackwell chart from above. You can get similar ones to the charts on Evolving Hockey but without the paywall.

Then trade a 2022 3rd for Kessel (50%).

Bura-Mack-Rants

Nuke-Newhook-LOC
Helm-Strum-Cluttetbuck (basically the most non Avs line ever). Physical, big, no scoring skill. An actual grind on the opponent 4th line.
13th forward - NAK.

Nice to see you venturing onto the Avs board for a change, so used to only seeing you on the main trade board! :)

Regarding Compher, I don't think Sakic has any intention of trading him. With $3m deadline capspace there should be more than enough space to make necessary trades without having to send Compher out. And even if a bit more capspace is needed the obvious candidate to ship out would be NAK, given that he doesn't PK, take faceoffs, or have the ability to fill in at center if needed; not to mention the penchant for taking dumb penalties which Compher doesn't do.

That isn't to say that I'm a big Compher fan or anything. I just don't see the point in reducing our depth if we don't have to. And as for next season's capspace, I doubt he'd be very difficult to move in the offseason with just 1 year left and his salary matching his caphit again.

There is a better chance of JTC getting a 6x$6M offer from Sakic the first day he can renew than there is of him being traded tomorrow. We're stuck with him. Glad we got rid of Jost though. At least there is a small chance JTC shows up for a game here or there. Just too bad we aren't playing the Blackhawks in the playoffs

If JTC is still on this team tomorrow, we lost this TDL.

I'm almost positive it would cost the Avs an asset to move JTC's contract. Anyone trading with the Avs will know how valuable cap space is to them right now and won't be doing them any favours by taking on one of their worst contracts without some sort of cost.

No need to trade Compher. Avs won’t need his cap space. Even if they add 2 upgrades tomorrow they can still fit him. Even if he usually sucks I’d rather have him on the 4th line or 13th forward than not having him at all.
Yeah, if Sakic can trade for 2 solid 3rd line players without giving up a roster player, it won't be a bad thing having JTC on 4th line.

But if you can manage to not have his cap hit for next year then you absolutely make that move.

The Avs are all-in to try to win a cup this year, and also have $27m+ in capspace free for next year as it is. Compher's caphit for next season will be the last thing on Sakic's mind right now.

I see a middle six forward coming and then some kind of Eagles/possible call-ups trades involving Kaut or Bowers. I think they have given up on the former for sure. Probably swap him out for someone else's 'fresh start', similar age prospect that might turn into a late bloomer, etc.

With existing cap and Landy and Girard on LTIR can't they add Kane with no retention at this point?

Now's not the time to be dumping legit NHL level players for cap space.
