Whats so rediculous about it?

He made our team worse with the O'Reilly and Duchene trades. Lost Stastny, Zadorov, Cole and Graves and have nothing to show for it.

The Kadri and Toews trades were good but that doesn't offset the poor moves he has made including last years disaster of a trade deadline.

Best record in the league and humming along without their captain and two top-4 defenceman. How does one do that without building a good team?

The amount of negativity around this team considering how they’ve played this year is baffling.

Sakic’s so done. He’s also not going to do anything of significance during the offseason. Such a joke of a gm.
This wouldn’t shock me. I can’t tell if this is sarcasm. He didn’t do a ton last offseason and the team is still in the top spot.

Hard to argue with his logic until the team hits the 2nd round.

MacFarland must’ve misplaced Joe’s Magic Conch. :sarcasm:

Sakic: Should we make a trade now?

Landing a top 4 RHD that fills a sorely missing void while not giving up a roster player is a win, especially given the price he paid.

What in your opinion would make it a win? What do you want yo give up for who?

Florida added a top 4 dman, bottom 4 dman, the best player on the market in giroux and still has room to do more because of LTIR money from ekblad. Tampa went all in when kucherov went on LTIR and spend their assets every deadline. Tampa has back to back cups to show for it and Florida looks poised to come out of the east barring bad goaltending.

And will still get bounced in the first round.

Let's take this ridiculous take piece by piece:

I will admit the O'Reilly trade didn't pan out, as all they have left on the roster from it is JT Compher. In Sakic's defense, it was a player that wanted to be moved, had no intention of every staying long term and had been a holdout.

Worse from the Duchene trade? Hmmm... a Top 4 defenseman on most NHL teams (Girard), a draft pick that turned out to be Bo Byram, even a goaltender that actually played for them in the playoffs (Hammond). I am puzzled as to how that has made the Avs worse given that Duchene commanded 8 million per and has won exactly nothing. Most consider that trade a key cog to building them into a contender.

Zadorov went for Saad, who put up 20+ goals and was a Top 6 forward last season.

Cole was a wash and a cap move.

Graves could have been taken by Seattle for nothing. A TBD 2nd rounder and a player would is still young (Maltsev) and could become a bottom 6 player is not nothing.

Florida hasn’t made it out of the first round in 25 years. This is the bar you’re setting?

That doesn't mean that much but Bednar does speak like they are done

“I like the new additions. I think all of our guys understand what they bring and have a healthy respect for what they bring, ” Avs coach Jared Bednar. “Both filled a need that we had.”

“We definitely addressed that need of being harder to play against,” said Bednar, “Harder to play against doesn’t mean running guys’ heads through the boards or being physical in that respect. It’s hard to get to the net on Nico Sturm. It’s hard to get to the net on Josh Manson.”

Why pay more to retain then?

I really don’t see how anyone could be content with the team as it stands. The entire top 6 is producing at career-best levels, and if they go cold for a few games this team can’t score. The Avs need forward depth, and that’s assuming that the Avs have no more injuries (high hopes)

The Manson trade was awesome, but Sakic needs to do more.

Honestly sounds like they’re signaling they’re at a point they won’t overpay for an asset and could be done.

Avs don't really need a top 6 forward because Kadri is producing like a #1 C on the 2nd line. Would be nice of course to get one, but if not, just get one or two more 3rd liners and good to go

Most contenders have blown their load and there are still a decent amount of rentals available. Think prices tomorrow will be more reasonable for the less sought after names.
