Interesting takes. For the most part I like what you've done, but I hate the idea of only getting Lehkonen for 2 years.

Barron + 2nd was a high price to pay (worth it though) so it would be ideal to get more years. If it only comes down to like $500k-$750k, go with the extra years.

We already know he's awesome on this team and was also great in Montreal. For all we know he could explode like Nichuskin and then we'd be kicking ourselves that we didn't go longer term. Just imagine having Nichuskin locked in for another two years at $3.5-4m...

Lebrun's article emphasizes how keen Sakic was to get Lehkonen and the Avs are known to have liked him for years, do I think they go long term with him.

As for the other moves, not sure another LHD puckmover is the way to go on the bottom pair. Rather get a RHS or versatile LHS (De Haan?) who can eat PK minutes. If EJ getd injured (as he has done 3 of the last 4 years) then that top 6 also wouldn't have much size.
Agreed. I think Nuke and Leks are going to be the priority this off-season to get those 2 done before anything else.

Once the Avs have those 2 guys wrapped up, we'll see about the rest. At this point, with DK it will depend if we win or not and if we do, if he prices himself out or not. I could see Varly as a backup plan but we'll see how it goes. Not sure a team that doesn't have Colorado's defense is going to want to break the bank for Kuemper with his current numbers but then again the UFA period is always really nutty.

Someone will give Kuemper a 6x6 probably Edmonton. Maybe Buffalo.

What's the obsession with Nick Paul?

Oh.........Forgot this was Hf Avs who has a size obsession.

The size queen jokes are funny and warranted sometimes, but lets be honest, it's helpful to have size in the NHL. Would Mikko or Landy be the same player if they were Tyson Jost's size?

Also it's not just about size. It's that he's a very good two way player. And was before the trade. When he got traded to a good team with good players, he had 14 points in 21 games for Tampa. And has 4 goals 8 points with 1 GWG in 18 playoff games. He's a good player and he'd be a good fit in Colorado.

Is it the 20 points career high?

Sometimes the split team stats can throw you off, but he had 16 goals and 32 points this year. That's basically Compher numbers, but Paul is more multi dimensional, and better at faceoffs.

I would rather get Lehky for longer, but if you go to 4-5 years it'd going to cost 4.5M Maybe even 5M with his playoff performance with us.

So I think in order to get him at 3.5M you probably have to go just 1-2 years and then he's likely a cap casualty for us after that. 1-2 years fits with the timeline of our window remaining open as well before a retool is likely needed.

This team has very little assets as it is, they can't afford to be letting guys like Lehkonen walk in UFA as a cap casualty. Sign him for $500k more with extra term and then trade him if the cap is an issue, but don't lose him for nothing.

This org has to keep Lehk long term, especially since they are likely losing Manson and possibly Kuemper for nothing. Those were super expensive rentals for a team with so little assets.

Would Laughton be useful for us?

Girard+1st for Sanheim+ Laughton? Or way off base, gives them room to pursue kadri or another costly player

Paul was probably Tampa’s best player in game one. Dude is a load to handle. He’s won me over from what I’ve seen from him in the postseason.

I think he probably signs for cheap in Tampa though.
100%. He’s a fantastic 3rd liner. He’s not great at any one thing, but he’s good at everything. Very good defensively even and has positional flexibility. He’d be perfect next to JTC if he doesn’t get moved next year.

since it seems Campbell is going UFA, I think he is the best option for the Avs. better than Varly, Kuemper or Gibson (because of the assets needed to get him). if we win the Cup, Kuemper is totally (and understandably) asking for 6+ and Id not want to commit that on him, even more on a mid-long term deal.

The difference between Campbell, Grub, and Kuemper is minimal at best. And he'll get the roughly the same contract as Kuemper and Grub.

Just trade for Samsonov, go back to the well. There’s always the 1 year deal for Fleury route if we want to go all in again next year he’d probably cost the least.

Samsonov is worse than all 3 of those guys. His potential is significantly higher, but the dude isn't very committed to becoming the best NHL'er he can so the risk is pretty high in acquiring him.

It's not going to take 500k more. If you want him for 4-5 years it's gonna cost areas 4.5M, if not 5M.

Who cares about the assets. We only have one more good year at a cup run left. Whatever they have to do to keep contracts as cheap as possible for next year is what they should be doing.

I still say OTT will be a big player in trying to get Naz and I think the Avs should try to sell his right to them or any other interested teams prior to the draft.
