Nuke is going to cost a mint. He left for Russia from Dallas for a few more bucks and Dallas needed to pay to get him back. Now with the season he's had and his advanced stats... somebody will pay up. An AAV starting at 6m wouldn't shock me at all.
He's what, 27? I wouldn't be surprised if he wants 7-8 years.

Avs need to offer Nuke at least 5-6 million. Strickland in his comment says "GoAvsGo", which tells me that offer will be coming from the Avs.

GM's who put too much weight into this year's offensive stats will get burned.

Everyone had career years. Scoring was way up.

That will most definitely happen. Even then I think he was going to cash in no matter what due to the fact that he's still elite defensively, a play-driving monster, and he's 6'4", 210.

GoAvsGo is just the Avs tag on Twitter because they were mentioned in the tweet. Highly, highly doubt that there was something hidden in that.

It's a good year to be UFA.

I've got no problem paying guys what they're worth. Nuke is easily work 5M+ given how his on ice impact contributes to wins. You could argue Nuke has a bigger impact on winning than many players earning 7M+ contracts, because contracts are tied so closely to point values. Drouin, Zucker, Eberle, etc. are a few guys off the top of my head that make 5.5M. Nuke is worth that more than any of them.

I had a feeling them getting Lehkonen gave them all the excuses they needed to not bend over for Nuke.

It sucks because he is the second liner I wanted to keep the most, and him and MacKinnon seem to have grown a rapport with each other, but it's looked for a while now like that guy is walking.

Sakic better be ready to have a hell of a summer, he has a core that just easily made the cup final and he'll need to completely rebuild the second line and lock down a starting goalie.

He just signed a guy. I don’t think he’s resting on his keister.

I also doubt a Saint Louis reporter could find the phone number of the Avalanch, the organization is so secretive.

Strickland has had a really tough last six months in terms of constantly getting things wrong. You lot think that one of the most secret agenda organisations will somehow leak something out to this bloke out of all people? The only thing Strickland has called was Lindenwood moving to DI in college hockey.

That doesn't mean his premise is entirely wrong, he's just using critical thinking to match up the big points though. Avs probably DID talk to Nuke's camp about an extension, Nuke's camp probably wasn't CLOSE, and now Nuke will get a good pay increase. You don't need sources to conclude that...

I would be pretty shocked if Nichushkin isn’t an Av next season.

His contract demands would have to be outrageous for them to move on imo. I don’t think they’re touching 7+, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they gave him 6.

I don’t think the Lehkonen trade had anything to do with him being a Nichushkin replacement. I think they just saw another good two-way forward to add.

I'm curious to see how teams react to this season. Obviously agents/players will be looking to cash in but will teams give in? Nuke after this season absolutely deserves a huge payday but will teams be factoring in how much scoring was up? If there's a team out there that doesn't care about that than yeah I think the Avs are going to lose him.

He had 52 points/25 goals in 62 games on top of being a defensive monster. If his agents are ignoring the increased scoring is it possible his camp is looking for like 6.5/7?
