Nuke goooood. Damn he is going to price himself out of Colorado.

That's the narrative around here. Girard has so much trade pedigree that he will net us a good 2C.
One year of Barrie and cap dump of Kerfoot got us troubled second line center. Not unreasonable to ask for a good second line center with term imo.

I just don't know what 2Cs with term are actually going to be available this summer?

In terms of guys with 2-3 years of term, who's available? Scheifele? Schmaltz? Gourde? Karlsson? I don't know that any of those guys outside of possibly Scheifele, will actually be made available.

Perhaps the Avs are better off trading Girard for a futures haul, and using his cap space in free agency on Copp or Trocheck. Then maybe they can use some of those futures on a significant upgrade in Goal.

They would likely get a 1st + Top prospect + Roster player sort of package for Girard.

Scheifele is a legit 1C in his prime on a good contract. If he's on the market other teams will line up with huge offers that we won't match. We have 0 chance to land him.

There's JT Miller but he only has one year left and it looks like the Canucks are keeping him. He'd cost an arm and a leg, too.

As for the UFA's...How much cheaper than Kadri Trocheck is gonna be? He isn't as good but he's also younger, not sure his AAV will be that much lower.

Copp is more of a 3C than a 2C.

The reality is even if we want to trade Girard for a 2C there aren't that many guys available.

Use Girard+ to get some rfa/ufas signed for term. This would be nice PLD and pionk.. For Girard+ 1st+

Edit- or unite 2/3 of Montreal's 2nd/3rd line get a retained Armia and Dvorak.

Scheifele is a loser. Duchene 2.0 off the ice and isn’t the player he once was on the ice.
Yeah and I think Joe learned his lesson from Duchene. He did trade for Kadri but from my understanding he was always liked by the team he played for, but hated by enemies for his controversial plays.

We can get troubled player for cheaper. Sleepy Joe might try to find another Kadri. Someone who has upside to do better, but has some struggles they think they can fix..

Probably not the worst idea. If it fails, sign someone at trade deadline.

22.5 minutes of ice time of which almost a minute was PP time for Byram in game 1 of the SCF.

I wonder what assets the Avs will use to acquire a 2C? We know it won’t be Byram though!

Which team is trading us their 2C for Girard?

NYI would be a great fit for Girard, they're desperate for a LHS puckmover.

They probably wouldn't move Barzal, and Pageau is more of a 3C, but maybe Brock Nelson? 3 years left at $6m AAV albeit with salaries less than his caphit. Nelson is 30 years old so that's not ideal, but he just put up 59 points in 72 games on a defensive team that missed the playoffs so he's still seemingly got plenty left in the tank. He's also solid defensively and can kill penalties.

NYI's other biggest need beyond a LHS puckmover is a top 6 scorer, so you can potentially include Burakovsky's UFA rights in the deal to add some value coming back.

Nelson + ___ for Girard + Burakovsky's UFA rights.

Edit: Here's a capfriendly roster with that scenario. It easily works out capwise:

Looking at free agents, we should try to sign Bergeron. Playoff warrior, great in faceoffs, great defensively and can still put up points at decent clip. Fits all the boxes for me. Age and tear wise probably not the best but maybe he could be interested for one more run?

List of UFAs:

Also I would add, if we need winger, I like Palat from Tampa. He has played well.

Yup, I am cautiously optimistic that we will at least be inquiring about Bergeron in the offseason. Too many things add up that makes sense. The likely Kadri departure, Avs in full contender window, Bruins possibly in rebuild mode and Bergeron's idolizing Sakic growing up. I think I was listening to a chiclet's podcast with Lile's and he said one of the most profound compliments Bergeron received was that a player said he was the closest thing to Sakic they had played with. I got a feeling Sakic would much rather go high aav/short term for Bergeron then try a long term contract with another 2C solution.

Landeskog-Mackinnon-Rantanen
Nuke-Bergeron-Lehkonen

I mean come on..that is just nasty.

We should try to call Malkin too and make it a last dance for them. Add Crosby soon too.

One last dance:

Malkin, Bergeron and Letang.

Fleury to goal.

Hhaha,

Bergeron makes a lot of sense. I am sure Sakic will call him up. Sakic should probably call up all these guys who made their money and want one more run for the cup, to be honest. Maybe we can find some bargain.

Pretty sure I've seen or heard it said that Bergeron has already made it known he's either in Boston next season or retired.

Pretty interesting post:

Values of Nuke, Kadri and Bura UFA contracts. Nuke would be the best value most likely out of these three.

I think it's pretty spot on imo.

Sign Nuke to six million and you have a decent deal.

Based on this: Bura will be very overpaid. Then Kadri. Nuke the good value option.

So…. I guess no one is going to suggest a Compher trade this offseason. The guy has been nothing short of amazing for us in these playoffs. Really glad Seattle took Donskoi instead

How good of a fit would Nick Schmaltz be as a 2C for us? His faceoff % was 47 last season so that's already one requirement filled.

I think he'd be bad. He mostly plays RW because he's bad defensively and terrible at faceoffs (47% was his career high by a mile).

He also shot at almost 19% this season. Huge regression coming.
