I think it's way too early to give up on Dach. Bigger guys like that tend to take longer to develop.

Pffffft, I'd be fine with them giving up on a kid who has yet to be coached by someone of NHL caliber. I'm about as invested in the success of the Chicago Blackhawks as I am in making sure the giant shit I just left in the toilet a few minutes ago doesn't drown.

Sturm is as good as gone with that signing. Bednar coached him in the AHL so he knows what he's getting.
I suspect management already has a pretty good idea what they consider the 'ideal' player attributes for each position under JB's system.

Dunno if dach would be a good fit here.

I’d take a look tho he was pretty solid in the playoffs a couple years ago.

Wonder if they’d do something around Newhook for dach ?

I wouldn't do that. Newhook already outproduced Dach this season. I don't watch a lot of Chicago games but I have to think Dach has better linemates than Newhook.

He won't be, doesn't mean he won't be a good NHL player.
He just needs to slow it down a bit, looks like he's looking to get rid of the puck as soon as it's on his stick. It'll come with experience. He's got the Crosby/Duchene build that I don't think size will be a problem.

We've said similar things about other players. He's also not nearly as fast as Crosby or Duchene.

I just don't think he's a center in the NHL. Period. And the Avs have been dealing with gaps in the center depth chart all season long, and have used almost every conceivable stopgap except moving Newhook back there. Even they know it ain't happening at center for him. The question is whether he can make it work as a LW. I think he can, but he's got to start winning puck battles and finding open ice to release that shot of his. Too often in the final month or so of the regular season he'd pull a Jost and get pushed off the puck against the boards way too easily. That's not a size thing, he needs to fight harder and use the open ice more.

I would not move Girard for Dach (don't even ask about Byram, he's damn near untouchable for me).

That said, I'd be open to other pieces moving. Dach was dynamite a couple of seasons ago as a rookie against Leon Draisaitl in the playoffs, holding his own. If you could unleash that potential you'd have a dominant 2C on your hands.
He can center a line between Lawson Crouse and Nolan Patrick.

Dach just doesn't have it. I would absolutely trade Girard for a top six center but it needs to be better than Dach or just keep the D group together as long as possible.
