I just looked at the previous 1st overall drafted players and since 2016 (Auston Matthews) none of them really turned into super stars yet. If he can get 15-20 points this year he would be up there with what most of them got in their first season
2017-18 Hischier 52 points
2018-19 Dahlin 44 points
2019-20 J. Hughes 21 points in 61 gp
2020-21 Lafreniere 21 points in 56 gp
2021-22 n/a Power played in NCAA

Man what's the deal?

Looked totally fine after his big game, but hasn't played since.

Is it too much of a leap to call shenanigans? Is this the Habs scratching him without having to actually scratch him?

Should I wire up the ol' tinfoil hat?
If it is, he needs to be sent to Laval, because he needs ice time.

Hughes and Gorton are showcasing their garbage - Drouin, Hoffman, Dadonov- , expecting someone will take one or more of them off their hands. Slaf can wait a bit. he is in a learning process. It's like going from high school to Master degree overnite.

The Habs aren't taking any chances with a small upper body injury he has. He missed two practices because of it.

European teams have a history of not giving tons of ice time to top prospects so I actually doubt very much that Slaf would be getting 20min a night. There's no point in the euro team investing in Slafkovsky since he would be gone in a year almost no matter what.

They’d want him instead in Laval where they can reap the profits of having Place Bell burst at the seams at hiked prices and all kinds of attendant sales. While Laval is much too weak to go anywhere, he might help with their scoring drought.

If he doesn't want to play send his ass back to Finland, I've had enough.

Do we have an idea as to what the injury actually is? I’ve heard it was a wrist injury, others have said it could be a concussion. What’s the latest? (if anything)

No one's taking garbage like Dadonov, Hoffman, and Drouin. We have to realize it just isn't happening. So if that's the reason they're playing over Slaf, Heineman, etc... it will need to stop when they're healthy.

We will be rid of the Dadonov and Drouin contracts at the end of this year, Hoffman's at the end of next year. Not a day sooner.

I also think people have to realize that the Habs will have to lose a trade with Gallagher badly. I'm talking picks and prospects bad

I don't mind losing a pick and a prospect for a chance to move Gallagher, but it all happens at least after the 2023 draft, if not the 2024 draft, once we've stocked the cupboards some more and when the impact of losing such futures is lessened because of the depth in the system already.

At that point, cap space will be more important than more futures, with Slafkovsky, Guhle and Harris, amongst others, needing to he re-signed one after the other.

The cap is going to go up significantly soon, Gallagher's contract shouldn't be a problem.

As the cap goes up, so will player salary demands.

Gallagher's contract will be a problem, only question is how big of a problem. At any rate I don't see us contending for an ol there 4 years, so hopefully in the last couple of years of his deal, the cap space he takes up doesn't prevent us from landing or keeping a key piece. I suppose can we can always do what C as lgary did with Monahan, Chicago did with Bickel, Toronto did with Marleau, etc... and give a team good futures to get rid of the contract.

Well, that's the thing, salaries will go up and Gallagher's salary will look fine even if he's in your bottom six.

Yeah their rhetoric is based on their own interests... maybe they're right but maybe they're not and that's what most people don't understand and act like the agents-instructors from Soljesnystin assuming you're guilty all the way; that's how most people act and think, like tyrants, us included! In Europe, Slafkovsky would also learn bad habbits, play on bigger ice and not experience the real thing. Right now he's learning a new game at max difficulty, that's why he hasn't adjusted, it's like when you play humankind at difficulty humankind for the first time with the AI cheating so much it changes the whole experience. If you play humankind at nation which is still not that easy you can get away with so many things.

What a bunch of baloney.

By virtue of the ice surface, European players tend to play a more finesse game than North Americans (obviously not often as talented though). This is exactly what Slaf has to improve — unless you’re happy with him being the next Armia or Anderson.

The issue of them adapting to North America is minor, not many genuinely talented players struggle with this and have it derail their careers. There have been plenty of European superstars like Hossa, Kopitar, and such.

Slaf could have been in Europe playing and being a big dog. Figuring things out on his own. Instead he’s rushed into the NHL, on pace for 20 points.

It’s not as if he had outgrown or outplayed Liiga ffs

In any case, the Habs are certain of their approach and confident in their ability to develop him and Dach. So… let’s see
