Slaf should not be in the NHL right now he can hang in there but that isn’t helping is motivation or confidence. Coming from Europe he is allowed to go to the AHL so why to use it. Also WJC would have been a good excuse to take him out of the NHL and change thing up for him without being negative. Right now he is too hesitant, isn’t moving is feet and even if he is one of the biggest player he is getting hit, the skill is evident he need the confidence to do is thing without holding back…Even in a throw away season the only FW getting less ice are fringe NHL that are in the lineup every game Richard, Pitlick and Pezzetaa. This guy is 18 was not getting top minute in Finland he need ice time to keep improving playing 10min you will end up with Armia 2.0… AHL is significant competition for him and if it isn’t you can call him up to the NHL.

This thread has so much volatility.

And it still sucks.
Well, maybe if people didn't post ad hominem garbage like this:
Exactly.
Sick and tired of the 8 year old babies reacting to every play.
Give it a break already and let it be.
I look forward to every shift.
...things might be a little more chill, regardless of what anyone's opinion is.

Avs fan here in peace , Great game guys, I enjoyed it.

As per Slaf it probably would be good to send Slaf down. Remember Rantanen spent most if his 1st season in the AHL.
He had better games, lately he is a bit more tentative and wants to avoid to get rocked down again. But yeah, a 2-3 weeks break at the WJC is probably what he needs at that point. Although Im not sure thats a good idea after watching Slovakia today, they are quite brutal, I doubt they have any chance at a medal, even with Slaf on the team.

I said I'd wait and see. I've waited and I've seen.

He should be in the minors. He's not getting the ice here. He's gotten smoked a few times. I don't think this is helping him.

It looks like he might hit the wall. At least, I do not see any improvements in his game in last weeks. Last night he did not even play PP if I saw correctly. I agree he might need some change of scenery. WJC or minors

I don't think they'll do it before the end of 2022.. but it's possible once we get Gallagher back that they put him down for a spell.

Marty not playing him in 3rd periods of tight games is a disappointing development.

No shame in playing in the AHL as an 18 year old. He should have been there from the beginning IMO, but better late than never.

One thing I have noticed is he is not confident and that can wear on you. When he played with his country in international play, he was a go to type player. On the Habs, he is a bystander with limited ice time.

So yeah, It is getting to the point where he needs the puck on his stick a bit more and that happens with more ice time. I'd think different if his confidence was high but it's not at the moment.

Would have been a good time to loan him to the WJC. Would have been a fresh change for him

AHL? I worry that even with more ice time, he has little talent to play with? Not sure... I don't watch Laval games.

His confidence must be very low. He was benched in 3rd and scratched from PP. Must be really frustrating especially when he sees other teammates like Dadonov making billions of turnovers.

He can play with Pitlick and RHP in Laval. Those are solid players.

Yup. Confidence/momentum is important and his confidence is low. The game is getting tighter too. I really wish our AHL team was better. Would be an obvious move. But with a weak Laval team with limited talent, I wonder if he would drown there too and affect his confidence more.

If it continues, he will play in Laval at some point. Maybe our best play was to have both him and Mesar in the AHL? Someone he knows well and they can feed off of each other.

Who do you think he hangs around with on the Habs roster? Who is he close with on the Habs? I wonder?

Xhekaj, Guhle mostly. But I think he will be OK with Mysak in Laval.

I prefer better than OK. Slaf needs a good center to work with. We started to see gains when he played with Monahan but then it's gone now with him getting hurt.

Until he gets a stable spot with a true center, the results are not going to change much IMO

Quality of vet forwards in this team is just pathetic. Mony is the only player who could be a good mentor for our young forwards. You do not want to have 23y old Suzuki mentoring 18y old Slafkovsky. Thankfully, there is Savard, Eddie and Matheson in D.
I remember Lecavalier said that he played his first NHL season in 3rd line with some good vets and it helped him a lot.

Well said sir
Can't wait for MacKinnon to come back. Avs are so exciting when he is in the line up with Makar.

Last two games were rough, gotta call em like I see em, thought he looked good most of the year but he's clearly in a funk right now
He didn't even play badly yesterday, and he was still benched. Drouin was a headless chicken most of the game in the d-zone and Anderson and Slaf had to cover for him in front of the net. What ensued was a discombobulated line and porous zone exits, as well as getting hemmed into their own zone. Yet Drouin still receives ample PP time and opportunities. I won't even start on Dadonov.

MSL is very inconsistent with the messages he's sending, and I frankly don't believe he's been putting Slafkovsky in a position to succeed lately. There's been a sense of optimism growing about the future of this club with our new personnel - in management and coaching roles - but apart from Caufield's emergence, MSL has shown squat at developing young players.
