He is going to learn how to burn guys who are stepping up... then this will stop.

At least he protected himself somewhat against Ghost. Elbows up kid...elbows up.

Slaf should not be in the NHL right now he can hang in there but that isn’t helping is motivation or confidence. Coming from Europe he is allowed to go to the AHL so why to use it. Also WJC would have been a good excuse to take him out of the NHL and change thing up for him without being negative. Right now he is too hesitant, isn’t moving is feet and even if he is one of the biggest player he is getting hit, the skill is evident he need the confidence to do is thing without holding back…Even in a throw away season the only FW getting less ice are fringe NHL that are in the lineup every game Richard, Pitlick and Pezzetaa. This guy is 18 was not getting top minute in Finland he need ice time to keep improving playing 10min you will end up with Armia 2.0… AHL is significant competition for him and if it isn’t you can call him up to the NHL.

Draft the 6’4 238lb ‘unicorn’ who is supposedly dominant physically and a beast.

Yet he’s playing like Johnny Gaudreau out there. He should be the one dishing it out, not taking licks from offensive Dmen like Ghost.

Embarrassing. Might be Armia 2.0 with this soft ass play. Drafted him to be a beast.

And don’t give me this ‘he’s 18’ bullshit. Lucic was feared when he was 19 and came in the league. Not saying Slaf is a goon, but he can damn well start to play a little tougher and give back a taste of their own medicine

If you thought Slaf was going to be anything like Lucic because he's big you were setting yourself up for disappointment. He was not a bruiser or particularly mean at any point in his career.

There was never any indication he was doing to be a physically punishing player. He is strong along the boards already and that's the part that will continue to grow as he grows.

Slaf's last 2 games have been rough not going to lie, with that being said, some inconsistency in his rookie year is perfectly normal. All 1st OV in recent history went through some inconsistency, thats a rough league and tough calendar to handle for any 18 yrs old kids.
I feel like Slaf’s pick was a big mistake, the guy was all hype no substance from the get go.

His lack of hockey IQ was really apparent last year and even in the tournament he was good in.

He throve on less structured hockey and playing against smaller guys than him.

Even his strongest asset are looking like flaws right now. He was supposed to be really though to move from the puck and it is actually really easy at the nhl level.

He’s actually not that big for a NHLer. He actually looks slow compared to other players this year.

At least players under him did not start to produce, it buys him time. But like I was at the draft, right now, i’m really scared that we picked the worst 1st overall in the last decade.

It may be we did, but my impression is that none of the forward players in the top10 of this draft will be great. Cooley is still a question mark with his size. It was a bad year to draft. So could he be the worst? Maybe but it is not really our fault.

No one cares
I sure do hope he doesn't play like Lucic cause that would be a very disapointing 1st overall pick.
I would love it if he had some of the tough physical attributes of Lucic and scored 25 goals a year, I'm not saying he is that but it would be one hell of a player to have on an up-and-coming team.

I would argue the Habs are far from being deep at RHD and Jiricek / Nemec were available. So this is not a good argument. That being said, as a Habs fan of course I hope whatever they Saw in him materializes and makes him an elite NHLer

It's surreal people are acting like he's dealt with 3-4 concussions this season alone lol.. jesus

Matheson hurts himself just skating 3 times and is missing actual TIME
Yet Slaf didn't miss 1 single game due to those hits.. but now everybody wants to drape him in bubblewrap lol..

He'll be fine, he's learning, and he'll only get stronger, and stronger and stronger

I talked about Lucy because I’m just saying, with Slaf’s size, age is not an excuse to be soft. He should be using his size to his advantage, not getting over by that midget from Minnesota or Ghost.

And for him to be successful, size and physicality better be apart of his game. Otherwise it’s pointless to have called him a physical beast and drafted him 1OV because of that

That’s the point, if and just if, Wright, Nemec or Cooley becomes better player than Slaf. Then Slaf being bad is entirely our fault.

There was and still is red flag all over him.

If you ask me to take a bet between a guy with IQ and a guy with tools. I’ll take the IQ everytime.

I feel like the Habs did not do that with the pick they had

Being big, doesn't necessarily mean you're strong.

He's in the NHL, playing against men, most of which are smaller but most of which are also stronger.

This should come with time, I mean look at the dudes legs.

And for him to be successful, size and physicality better be apart of his game

and patience better be a part of ours.

- Avoid big hits
- No turnovers
- No penalties
This might be key expectations from MSL and Slaf failed all of them last night. He deserved to be benched.

Avoiding hits is not the path to an NHL career. Especially not in the playoffs.

That’s how you end up like Drouin.

Being big also means, he almost never had to use his size / strength in previous leagues as players likely bounced off him, nor did he need to adjust / brace himself for being hit. There are lots of big & bigger players like him in the NHL (like Luke Schenn) who also know how to use experience / timing to their advantage… something again Slaf never faced previously

The only way you could know that playing in the NHL isn't helping his motivation or confidence, is if he himself tells it to you. I won't talk about what he feels or what he thinks because i don't know him. But i will tell you that he learns a lot since he's here. The kid learns fast and it's obvious looking the way he plays.
