Can't wait for the day he scores his first meaningless, useless goal, so I can come here to hear about how everybody creamed their pants, and proclaims him to be the next Kucherov or Pastrnak

I'd say Wright and Nemec have been better.

Extremely small sample size though
I disagree about Wright and Nemec, but I understand it’s subjective at this stage. Wright needs to score now or he’s going to the OHL. Slafkovsky brings some other things to the table, but bottom line his benchmark is the same as Wright, goals and points.

My lord.....2 preseason games and the sky is falling.

I wonder if this exact scenario was part of their interview with. The definition of Montreal pressure cooker.

Kid will be fine.
TBH my bigger issue than Slaf specifically in game 2 was the compete level of all the kids. Other than Xhekaj and Heineman it was slim pickings.

I disagree with you but its definitely a valid take.

Wright was surounded by Schwartz and Eberle who are pretty good NHLers and didn't show much for it other then a couple good passes.

Nemec is making great passes but has also done some really bad pinches and has got caught a lot of times. Its something you want a young defenseman to do and spread his wings but still nothing to show for it. Defenseman are weird and hard to compare to Forwards imo.

Our Ds were mogged by their Ds. They could break out. We couldn’t break out. I still think the forwards could have done better.

I think if Mesar and Beck didn’t perform as well as they have, people would’ve put less pressure on him and been easier on him. But seeing how our other first rounder and 2nd rounder are looking better than our 1st overall, it’s making people more disappointed. Expectations were wayy too high and I get it since we haven’t selected first overall in ages.

Why Wright and Slaf have not scored goals.? Slaf can get to the slot, but then doesn’t take the slot to shoot. Or he’s in the slot but doesn’t shoot. Wright shoots at any sliver of opportunity, but can’t get to the slot, and I don’t know if he’ll have more luck tonight.

Yes there is.

But of course people here won’t say that Hughes said they liked him and said he was good in the scrimmages.
You beat me to it.

Hughes’ exact words were that Slaf’s two exhibition games were “a little underwhelming”. But added right after that he was “great” in his two rookie tournament games and that he had the most scoring chances by a decent margin in the two scrimmages he took part in.

Hughes also added that they’re not looking to take the popular decision only the one that they feel is best for Slaf. I take that to mean that they’re not going to have him on the NHL roster just because he’s a 1st overall pick — he’ll play wherever his development is best served.

The view remains a long term one — he reiterated that they did not intend on choosing the best 18 year old but the player who is likely to be the best a few years from now.

Very much hope so, but I wasn't a fan of the pick to begin with so my trust in the powers that be might start at a lower threshold than most
I wanted us to pick Shane Wright as well, I felt that both he and Suzuki could form a 1-2 center duo that resembled the Boston duo( Bergeron and Krejci). Time will tell if HuGo got the best player.

I think the popular thing right now is actually to send him to the AHL (and not just here). ;)

I personally don't care, as far as I'm concerned both the Habs and the Rocket will be "school" this year.

This board leaves me speechless at times..................not sure if we can tell who are habs fans, and which are just here to stir the pot....
CP31 says, it's preseason, just chill folks.
All these hot takes and doomsday scenarios contrast with the whole pain that a rebuild entails.

A majority of fans clamoured for it but now that it’s happening, they’ve started using small sample sizes to trash it and the players that need development time before they can be properly judged.

But hey, why have to deal with all the complications and intricacies of a rebuild when you can just do this:

It is so obvious that the line mates Slaf had last night were simply not the line mates to help him show his skills.

That line on paper made no sense.

Agreed.

I think the original plan was to have Drouin on that line which makes some sense and let's them see 3 guys who will likely play in pairs together over the year.

You don't like it when people overreact from a small sample size, but you do the same?

We missed out on a franchise player....AGAIN!!!

It will end up being a repeat of 2018 draft,

Wright = Tkachuk
Slaf = KK

We missed out on a franchise player....AGAIN!!!!

Slaf will end up being chucky 2.0

So we'll said my friend.

I keep stressing patience as this will take time.
By the time Slaf is 21 he will be ready.

So @Xirik, how do you like our nut house ?
Its fun that there is always something going on and everything is talked about. The downside so far is that since the fandom is so big the posters with ill informed opinions or bad takes can create their own recirculating hot air machine.

Other places those people get shot down easily but here it seems like that happening is as likely as stopping a snowball that just rolled down a snowy mountainside.

Overall its been a fun and welcoming community for the most part.:thumbu:
