229, now 238

Itll always fluctuate, these numbers are never really "set" for good , like, he can be 240 friday, 237 thursday, 234 on a monday, 242 on a sunday like..
You're making a huge deal for nothing too soon right now

I cant understand posts like yours and people didnt see him FLY on the ice?
LOL I mean, I lost 4 pounds between when I went to bed on Sunday evening and when I woke up on Monday morning... I can't imagine how much a pro hockey player's weight fluctuates over time with training, travelling, eating habits, etc.

I think the chaos he generates in the d zone is what sets him appart as a player. He creates so much free space for his teammates because of his combo of size, power, puck protection, skating, hands and puck distribution is special. The other team has to dedicate more coverage on him and it frees some ice. I don't think it's a coincidence he had better stats when the level of talent of his teammates went up

Slaf feels a bit like a support player in that regard IMO, he'll go as far as his most talented linemate. If the Habs can draft Bedard or Michkov next year, he could enable them so much. It could probably work with Caufield too but to a lesser degree I guess
I suspect that’s why they took him. The habs have way too many players who need space opened and almost no one who opens space. Even if Wright ends up being a much more productive player Slaf may bd a better fit.

1. There was like one person who denied he had any flaws. Any time you have someone who denies anything needing improvement or only talks about things someone doesn't do well - you ignore that person as they have a bias that won't allow them to paint an accurate picture.

2. Who cares? Every prospect gets compared to elite players. Those are stylistic comparisons and if you drew production and career parallels to that, that's on you for not understanding how player comps work. Shane Wright got compared to Patrice Bergeron and that's f***ing stupid too if you think that Wright would ever sniff a career like Bergeron's.

3. Yeah, he has a lot of tools and he did a lot for Slovakian hockey. He's also a big specimen with those skills. It's clear that's why a lot of hockey people valued him highly. This doesn't mean that a player doesn't need to develop.

4. Yeah you should pump the brakes because outside of one person, most of the discussion was where does he start, the NHL, AHL or OHL because most people understand he wasn't a finished product.. as most 1st overall picks aren't. You have to go back to Matthews to find the last 1st overall who was an instant game changer in their first year. As I told MRB1P, the expectations you are putting on a 1st overall by not reconciling just because one 1st overall is McDavid, doesn't mean they all are. That's on you, buddy.

5. Yes, we should see in training camp because it's a better evaluation. Even if he blows the doors off or he's not ready, neither of those will guarantee anything about his career because he's 18. Imagine writing MacKinnon off after his 3rd season and thinking he's just another Galchenyuk.
It may take longer for Slaf, too. The big guys tend to take a bit longer to put it together. The Dach trade is a gamble Chicago gave up early .

For what it’s worth, Corey Pronman with a contrarian viewpoint. He apparently believes Slaf is not a total bust yet.

Slafkovsky wasn’t all over the score sheet in his two games, but he stood out as you would hope the 2022 first overall pick would, particularly in his first game. There were times Slafkovsky physically overmatched his opponents with his massive frame. His speed, reach and skill combination also allowed him to generate a ton of clean entries. He got and generated plenty of scoring chances and overall was the most impressive pro prospect at this event, as somewhat expected.”

Apron Basu said yesterday on Melnick’s show, Slaf was without a doubt the prospect that stood out head & shoulders above the others at camp regardless of stats - also is 95% confident Slaf will be on the opening night roster

For sure but we fans have to be super patient.
We have enough NHL ready prospects to watch, Slaf can learn at his pace.

Honestly in my peak gym rat days at the age of 21 in Uni my weight would fluctuate between 195 and 205 so about 2.5%.

Now Slaf has a better diet/training than i did at my best. So let's say he only fluctuates 2%. That's about 4.6lbs, assuming 229 is his average. 238 could have been a heavy day and he has only gained 3.5lbs since the draft.

I'm trying to lose weight and I recently got married to a weight scale...

I'm fluctuating as much as 4 pounds hi-low and that's pretty normal. To get a handle on it, I weigh myself every morning after the normal human "things" one does in the morning. Morning weight day to can vary about two pounds. Why/how I don't know, but it does.

Interesting observation was that a few weeks back, I was at Costco and had a sausage and...4 big cups of watered down soda. I thought I'd put out the fires in the isles yet, it disappeared. That's about 4 pounds of water absorbed somewhere.

Our bodies are marvels...and mysteries.

P.S. Down 11 pounds in 3-4 weeks. 30 to go.

Maybe he was constipated on the day he got weighed and had a near 10-pound log stuck up there? Anything is possible. I mean, it's not because you don't see it that it's not true...

I was a 239 lbs and told the doctor I weighed 240. He made me step on the scale and I weighed 231 lbs. Either my scale at home is. way off or weight varies, depending on several factors.

For starters, they say to weigh yourself at the same time in the same conditions from day to day, but even then...

Or from Chicago’s perspective: cutting a bust loose before he loses more value.

The only "true" scale are the old fashion beam type that they use in the doctors office. I bought one waaay back from Consumers Distributing, about 40 years ago, calibrated it once and it's never needs adjustment.

Are there any players on the Canadiens that you like or are optimistic about? Maybe HuGo hasn't received all your letters advising them on what moves they should be making. They seem to be screwing up left and right.
I like plenty of players but I don’t think it’s reasonable to only look at upside when discussing unknowns.

I think Mike Matheson is found money, I think Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki are core players who will establish themsleves are producers this year, I think we have a lot of interesting defenceman prospects. I love MSL as coach. I think Hughes seems smart but I am cautious until I see him build.

In fact it’s just Slaf and Dach that give me pause — both have a lot of question marks and were very ‘expensive’ acquisitions. I won’t see only the upside when there are noticeable potential downsides right in front of us as well.

Hope that makes sense

Just please give this guy some time. Weather it’s in nhl or AHL, just let him figure it out. No need to stress out if he doesn’t score in his first game or doesn’t dominate this year. Can we all just be sensible for once???

Years ago, after hearing the Leafs Doug Gilmour would lose upwards of say 6 to 8lbs during the course of a hockey game. I thought I would try it and weighed myself before the game and after. I believe it was 1993, so I was around 23 yrs old. At the time I was in very good shape. I was 5'7 and weighed about 185lbs. My pregame weight was 184lbs, my post game weight was 177lbs. I know it was water weight that I loss, and the lbs came back in within a couple of days. But I was still blown away at how much I lost. In such a short period of time.

My main concern is his weight.

How come he gained 15-20 pounds this Summer ? Is that all muscle ? Were the Habs physical training staff involved in that decision or Slaf totally overcame their advices and program ?

He reminds me of Eric Lindros who was also 6'4 - 230.
Stop harping on his f***ing weight. Jesus Christ I think Slaf is smart enough to listen to his trainers and the Habs organization when it comes to fitness. The kid is 6'3 at EIGHTEEN YEARS OLD. The kids weight is going to fluctuate regardless of what he does and doesn't do.

Do we assume hes smart enough?

How do you know?

Also, not going to harp about his weight here but he clearly laid back relaxed and ate his way out of Slovakia this summer. Not that its bad, he needs to put meat on those bones.
