We'll see...I’ve seen enough to know he’s already better than Drouin, Hoffman, Gallagher. He’ll be better than them now, in 3 months and in 6 months.

Easy response. No commitment.We'll see...
That's not the only question to ask though. The other one is whether Slaf will be a better player in 5 years if we play him in the NHL this year or the AHL? That depends on what we see in camp and in the first few games of the season IMO.Easy response. No commitment.
If you had to win this year, with what you know now... Who’s the one guy you pick on your team? Gallagher, Drouin, Hoffman or Slafkovsky. Tic, toc, tic, toc...
Then it’s not the player that makes your team better right now anymore. You’ll send down to the AHL players that made the NHL team. That's not the only question to ask though. Not if you want to win a cup eventually. Then it’s not the player that makes your team better right now anymore. You’ll send down to the AHL players that made the NHL team.
I don't think so. Hockey is played on the ice over many, many games and seasons.I’ve seen enough to know he’s already better than Drouin, Hoffman, Gallagher. He’ll be better than them now, in 3 months and in 6 months.
Do we keep him down for 1, 2, 3 seasons to make the Cup despite the fact he’s a Top-6 that should be in the NHL. Because winning the Cup is very important to me.Not if you want to win a cup eventually.
The point is that, if you want a better player right now, we should have traded the 1OA at the draft.Do we keep him down for 1, 2, 3 seasons to make the Cup despite the fact he’s a Top-6 that should be in the NHL. Because winning the Cup is very important to me.
Just to be clear... You don’t think he’s already better than them right now.I don't think so. Hockey is played on the ice over many, many games and seasons.
Does he have the potential to be better ? Yes. But he has to prove it.
My main concern is his weight.
How come he gained 15-20 pounds this Summer ? Is that all muscle ? Were the Habs physical training staff involved in that decision or Slaf totally overcame their advices and program ?
He reminds me of Eric Lindros who was also 6'4 - 230.

The guy was listed at 220 when drafted in July... He is now 238 !!!!!I don’t think he gained that much, he probably gained a little less than 10 pounds. Plus the off-season is the time to get your body right and gain the muscles back because they lose some during the season since they can’t train as much in the gym.

I think the 219 number is from last summer. Slaf didn't attend the combine so he didn't have updated weight measurements for the 2022 draft. He gained the 15-20 pounds over a full year year which is more realistic

Kid had a couple of poutines when he arrived in Montreal. It's probably mostly glycogen. The guy was listed at 220 when drafted in July... He is now 238 !!!!!

EOTP?I didn't listen to the podcast yet, but in the EOTP podcast on Slafkovsky, we learned that the Habs spoke with Koivu before the draft as part of their due diligence on Slaf.
When you are bigger, that means more mass of your body is water, so you have larger fluctuations. If his weight fluctuates by 5% based on water, then that is a 10 pound swing. He probably gained like 10 pounds or less of real muscle. The guy was listed at 220 when drafted in July... He is now 238 !!!!!

Could be one of the reasons they took him over Wright. They may have felt Wright believed he had no flaws and didn't need to improve.Weight/Skating is not my concern. My concern is his transition to less time and space in North America. I believe he will be a major part of our core but it's going to take a bit.
One area which is a positive is his will to improve and put the time/work into it. Overcoming obstacles is a huge part of development. Many drown and become complacent. I think Slaf is the type to overcome it... just a matter of time
