it actually is. Guys were doing until the numbers guys took over. Tony Gwynn, Tony Fernandez, Wade Boggs, Pete Rose would have field days with the shift. Problem is the guys are told to swing out of their asses as the numbers tell you to do damage vs little singles.
Lol. That doesn't make any sense. If it was easy to hit a ball wherever a batter want to hit it then it would obviously be a losing strategy for the defence to play the shift. No competitive baseball team is in the business of losing games. If batters like you mentioned were so good at placing a hit wherever they wanted then the defence obviously wouldn't play the shift against them.

If it was so simple he wouldn’t only be hitting .270.

It's about situations. I do think guys should swing for the fences early in the count or tried to get extra bases with a hard swing. What I am saying is during key moments do players have the ability to change focus and just make the smart play to help the team.

Gurriel did it there by just putting the bat on the ball and shooting into right. Setp up the next batter with a chance to end the game.

I don’t disagree with the principle and I actually think the Jays need to be better at this kind of thing. But executing it isn’t as easy as you’re implying it is.

That is the whole point if guys just started to shoot the ball past the shift every AB eventually the fielders would have to move back into their old position which then would open up the 5/6 hole and 3/4 hole oh and also the middle of the diamond.

Teams analytics department won't allow guys cause the numbers and data/spreadsheet say so. Guess what you change your hitting approach and so do the numbers the analytical guys use to make up their philosophy. which team will have the balls to change their hitting approach to force teams to move away from the shift. The 1st team that does it and is successful the rest of the league will follow.

If you stopped teams from shifting by hitting the ball past their shifts your batting averages would climb as you wouldn't be hitting into the shift and lose base hits where they used to be bases hits.

Problem is no one has the balls to change that approach

In fact it's not easy at all. Otherwise it would be demonstrated. This is professional baseball we're talking about. Do you really think players are trying to not do what is going to help the team win? or is baseball not like shooting fish in a barrel?

Honestly I hope they lose 10 straight and Charlie gets fired. They aren’t making it anyways.

Keep losing. f*** Montoya and his zero baseball IQ

The organization is a joke to still have this pos employed

f*** the jays until he’s gone

You can only go so far into the our bullpen before they’ll screw it up. But honestly, forget Montoyo, the bullpen…this offence has left base runners stranded like they’re collecting bonus for each one.

It shouldn’t even come to this. You can’t be held to 1 run by Drew Hutchison if you’re this offense. It’s frankly embarrassing.
Sure, but the pen has to pick up some of the slack when the offense is struggling. The starters have been outstanding, the offense and pen have been garbage.

I'm as big a fire Charlie guy as anyone but not sure it's his fault today when they couldn't give Matz more than 1 run of support through a 6 inning start and the game was lost on an egregious error.

Richards, Cimber, and surprisingly Thornton were fine. At some point the hitters have to do something.

 If your conceptual idea of what the best way to play baseball is was true, then that's what you would see. But you don't.
Are you trying to tell me player wont purposely hit a ball where the defender isn't because of analytics? I wonder what type of analytical data that would be? Sounds like a load of complete BS

1 for 17 with runners in scoring position.. that’s a whole lotta suckage. Semien has been great all season defensively but one of the few times he messes up the team can’t pick him up. This team needs to develop some professionalism.

When your starting pitching is literally the only thing working, you’re not going to win enough games. Especially when you have a manager who likes to take his starters out early.
