Yeah, I was worried Brennan Othmann would be a riser. Was hoping for him or Stankoven falling buuuuut

I also really like Svozil and think he oozes potential

Definitely a draft with a lot of potential gems since the year was so weird, no one really got to have a huge draft year

especially looking at the goalies @AnThGrt I think Cossa is a pipe dream at this point, 6'6" goalies don't fall from trees anyway but he looks even more monstrous this year since the field behind him has like nothing.

Paraphrasing a blip from "Future Greats and Heartbreaks" about Central Scouting, the author said that NHL teams/scouts generally respect the job that they do with their limited resources but that teams also disregard Central's final rankings.

Makes sense, especially as teams grow their internal metrics it seems Central Scouting isn't really updating much

Yet the final 1st and 2nd rounds at least aren't typically THAT far off projections

Central usually releases before the U18s, so their final list always seems to have that handicap as well. It's almost like their list might've overreacted to the U18s this time around.

I suppose you can say it about any list, but there'll usually be something that stick out like a sore thumb with Central's list.

Food for thought: Dustin Brown was ranked #2 by Central Scouting in 2003, and he dropped to the Kings' laps at 13.

As I remember it, most expected Brown around where the Kings took him.

Somebody uploaded the 2003 Draft on YouTube, this'll be a fun rewatch. Bob McKenzie/TSN had Brown at #10.

How would one take it seriously when the list is divided by NA and Euro skaters.

As well they should. Nothing against CSS - they should take any independent scouting service with a grain of salt.

Why spend hundreds of thousands of dollars per year on a staff if you are just going to google someone else's list to help you make your pick?

The Kings under DT really placed A LOT of weight in what Central Scouting thought. They also seemed to always jump on the guy who dropped the most.

Looking back at that though, we are lucky AF that NYR took "Huge Specimen" you know that our old front office's obsession with drafting the next Keith Primeau or Eric Lindros was very real.

I didn't know when the TV contract for NBCSN expired, but it looks like the transition will happen pretty quickly. I booked a flight on draft night, so I was anticipating maybe missing the last ten picks of the first round but Southwest has ESPN/ESPN2 available in flight so this works out for me. I assume ESPN will just use the TSN analysts since they're already part owners.

Pretty surprised that central scouting has McTavish and Johnson ahead of Hughes, Beniers, Guenther and Clarke.

Ya Cossa is wishful dreaming at this point. Would have been a perfect piece for us too. Benjamin Gaudreau is hovering around that late 1st/early 2nd slot in most rankings and would be a solid 2nd round pick for us. Need to read up more on him yet from the little I have it wouldn't phase me if we selected him with either 2nd. Was hoping Cossa would drop a little or we could move up and take him.

Shocked to see McTavish at #2. I like him yet I just do not see the playmaking ability to warrant top 5. IMHO it is B. Hayton/Kotkaniemi again with him being a C. At #8 I would be ok with him yet if top 5 and taken over Hughes, Guenther, and Beniers I'd be disappointed personally as there are simply better prospects available. What is nice and good is knowing at #8 there is a good chance we walk away with the top piece from the draft and have a shot at pretty much everyone not named Powers.

Agree, provided we don't drop, it's sort of how the Ducks were situated for Zegras, Drysdale. Bound to get a good faller since there isn't a hard consensus and I feel now more than ever teams will go for 'their guy'

Also agreed, if teams think McTavish is their guy and another team takes a shot at Wallstedt early, the Kings just may having something really nice drop in their laps.

I know. Pretty useless to have two lists instead of one combined.

Actually, usually it's 4.
NA skaters
NA goalies
Euro skaters
Euro goalies

I don't hate it, to be honest. It's not ideal, but if Euro scouts didn't watch NA players, and vice versa, then it seems disingenuous to make a combined list.
